I don't know about that specific model, but I have used a Metz 45-CT5 extensively. Metz flashes are a modular system; the flash unit and power circuitry are common, but there is a camera specific module that attaches to the flash and "talks" to the camera, providing TTL or
E-TTL or whatever your particular camera calls their advanced TTL system. The risk is that some camera companies don't share exactly how the camera and flash work together and the 3rd party companies have to reverse engineer it, so they may or may not get all the details right. Also, if the camera manufacturer changes their system, the 3rd paty companies will lag behind until they can figure it out.
The good thing is that except for the camera specific module, the system is portable between brands/cameras. So, if you were to upgrade to a DSLR or a non-Sony camera, you would only need to buy the module, not an entire flash unit.
Typically, the Metz flashes are good units, but, in most cases, you don't really save money once you figure in the cost of the necessary TTL modules.
You might also try the ProMaster flashes. They have a similar modular approach to Metz, but for significantly less $$$. My Dad got one for his Oly 8080 for under $200, since he didn't want to spend $500 for the Oly one. (The Metz option for the 8080 was about $300) It seems to work well. They don't have as many camera options, but they seem to get generally good reviews and if they support your camera, you can get a deal.
