And that is exactly what I mean..its total bullcrap..The Site Council disqualified my entry because they say it was not taken during the challenge dates..WHICH IS AN OUTRRIGHT FRICKEN LIE.....I uploaded the orginal photgraph with the orginal data at their request. Was even glad that it was asked. This morning I woke up to a disqualification letter..Well I will tel you what..I have 48 hours according to the rule to upload the orginals..correct..SO INSTEAD OF RE-ASKING ME TO UPLOAD IT..PERHAPS I DID IT WRONG..THEY DISQUALIFY ME..THAT IS TOTAL FRICKEN BULLCRAP AND I'LL BE DAMNED IF THIS SITE GETS ANOTHER 5CENTS OUT ME UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED......

Steven,

The reason given for your disqualification was, "Your entry must be taken within the challenge submission dates, and have a valid EXIF datestamp to prove it."

The challenge submission dates are 29-Nov to 05-Dec. The datestamp on your entry was 2004:11:28 23:42:07.

In addition to being 18 minutes before the challenge start, it would be impossible to take your photograph at that time, since it was taken in broad daylight.

We'll be happy to answer any additional questions you have; however stop posting multiple threads on the same topic. If you continue to do so, your DPChallenge account may be suspended. You are more than welcome to continue posting your questions to this thread.

That is total nonsense! If my camera's data says the picture was taken late at night but the shot is in braod daylight..Don't you think there is something wrong with that assessment...GESH!Who is brains behind this operation. If you suspend me I want a refund.

Check your camera. I'm sure you will find the date and time are not set correctly.

I just did check it and the camera says the date is..in this format:
12/13/04.....
And the file also shows the date to be in the time frame.

I told you guys when I uploaded the picture my computer froze..I asked you to double check on it to make sure it was receieved properly and if not to let me know..see the thread under current challenges that I started...yet instead of telling me this before you D'qed my picture..you went ahead and did it anyhow...So I just say it is all a bunch of total bullcrap.

sounds like it's set 12 hours out, an am/pm/24hr clock mix up at a guess

Its not like SC is being unreasonable and I have seen where SC has changed an outcome of a challenge due to a DQ. so if they found a reason then simply just re-upload your picture and have them check it again rather then getting your panties in a bunch and possibly having a heart attack.

The file was intact, the date stored in it was outside the challenge dates.

If the EXIF were corrupted on upload it would be unreadable.

The time says it was 11:42pm..all my pictures from that day show that to be the time..Hmmmm...that can't be possible! They would have at least a couple of minutes in between them.
So it only stands to reason that I never set the time on my camera but the date is absolutely correct! So It doesn't take a fricken genuis to figure that out.
So I get disqualified because I never set the time on my camera..I say..bullcrap! If someone wants to nit pick over a time stamp..same time people on the picture, when all the pictures I took that day have the same time stamp..then so be it..I still feel that is bullcrap!
So I guess my Yellow Revisited entry has a screwed up time on it as well..and that will be also disqualified..and all my previous entries should be disqualified too because that means all the times on all of my photos are all in the same boat!
Again I say TOTAL FRICKEN BULL CRAP

Steve the SC takes no pleasure in DQing a photo.

Terry is trying to help you understand why it has been DQed. He is not saying that you took the photo outside the dates, only that it looks like the clock in your camera is incorrectly set therefore reports it being taken outside the date. Check your camera time and that will stop this from happening again.

I'm just curious - the challenge in question is 'Landmarks', correct? I just took a peek at your portfolio and see the photo 'Reflecting Providence', which was your 'Landmark' entry wasn't it? I'm 99% certain that I commented on that photo. In your portfolio it is dated Nov 27, 2004?

side note from 'Challenge Rules - Basic Editing':
"To avoid the possibility of disqualification be sure to check that the date and time on your camera are set correctly before taking any pictures you may use as challenge entries. We will no longer accept this as an excuse. You have been forewarned."

This is very true, Steven if your file has an illegal timestamp then will be eligible for a DQ, I don't think that it's fair to expect people ignore this, or we might as well throw away the 'take in pic in the timeframe' rule.

If that is the cause..and all of this is very new to me..I still say that assessment is bullcrap. He states the time say it was pitch dark outside when the picture was taken..that was said in his earlier comment..It is my opinion that looking at the photo..It was obviously taken around noon time because you can tell by the lighting in the picture..ie..the light direction..His comment says the picture was taken around midnight..which is very obvious that it wasn't..It doesn't take rocket science to figure that out..Yet they will still disqualify because it is obvious the time on the cmaera is set wrong..IT IS SO OBVIOUS..rather than letting me find out with an eMail to correct the problem...if that is the problem...they just disqualify a persons attempt to have a little fun turning it into a mess like this? Doesn't show much insight on the part of the site council..Rather than ask me what is up with the night time in the daylight picture..ie.. am vs pm..which is obviously the issue and would certainly explain the wrong data according to them..I just feel that is something they could have let me know about for my entries rather than just disqualify..Ya know I am sick..very ill and not long for this world..doing these challenges gets me out of the house...but if it going to turn into something like this over a snap shot then to be honest with you..I rather spend my time watching cartoons and counting my pills out for the day!

Cut and paste from the rules it is in bold in the rules.

Steve don't take it to heart, the SC are only doing their job. Look on the bright side at least it happened before you got a top 5 placing or a Ribbon.

Boo frikkin' hoo. Wouldn't turn into "something like this" for you if you hadn't made such an issue about it. Set the time correctly and get over it.

Why don't you post the picture so we can all enjoy it and look at the EXIF data ourselves.
12/13/2004 08:02:28 AM · #22
unfortunately, timestamps are final. If you take a pic of George W Bush being sworn in as President, even though it would impossible to take at any other time, if your date/time is wrong and outside the contest period, its disqualified.

Even if it is obvious that it was taken in the right period, if the exif can't prove it, you're out of luck. Sorry but thats the way the rules have evolved, date/time error is no longer a valid excuse.

Suck it up, sort your camera out and shove it in our faces by winning the next challenge!! Don't feel disheartened.
