I was wondering if DPC could change this to say, “Recommend this photograph for validation”. I know that sounds trivial but I have only click that button one time out of all the photographs I have voted on because to me it feels like I’m accusing the photographer of being guilty [knowingly or unknowingly] before he or she is proven innocent. So by feeling this way I don’t click it when I would like to have the photograph validated. Is it just I, or does anyone else feel this way?

It's a great point, and a great idea. I agree.

I never saw that, but yes, that is a great point. I hope this small change can be made.

I agree, innocent until proven guilty!

All in favor say Aye! "Aye".
(much nicer tone to it)

Agree. "Make it so!"

Used it multiply times. Makes it easier to use if the language was changed.

I agree. Wording is very important. I also wish that once a request is requested that the SC would deliver a verdict as soon as is humanly possible. This will help the image because many voters will simply low-ball an image that is suspect.

However, always think twice of using this feature. Some will argue that perception is what counts. My argument against perception is that some members have a limited perception because they have never really studied the effects that can be accomplished with a camera and these folks are constantly being surprise.

Yes, I applaud the change in wording along with the judicial use of the feauture and I wish that the SC would respond quicker instead of waiting for the end of the challenge.

I also agree that it should be changes; it's a little more eloquent. But really the main reason is after reading the forums, quite a number of people think that 'Recommend this photograph for disqualification' actually means that they can take that photo out of the challenge because it doesn't meet the challenge.

Using the suggested phrase 'Recommend this photograph for validation', the Site Council might get more valid request for verification then for not meeting the challenge details.

That's ... Aye, Yup, Agreed, Yes ... from me.

Another site has photos validated at the time of entry: www.fujimugs.com
A great site fuji owners!

Very cool, especially since I just got third place in the Trasport Challenge, which happened at the same time I was being D.Q.ed here. The site administrator has the patience of Job and his response time to any question is approximately .5 seconds! :-)

I have met some amazingly helpful people there, too! (meaning many wonderful people here, too!)

I do agree that it takes the administration toooo loooong to make a decision on a photo, and the communication feels a bit "form letterish" and impersonal here.

I whole-heartedly agree with the change to "recommend this photo for validation." What a difference a word makes.

Warning...a blatant bit of self-promotion alert.

Aye!
I have used it & felt guilty about it. But I made a note in the comments saying I did it and why

Emphasis added above ...

Note that this is against the rules.

Please vote every picture you vote on as if it is legal, or else you are unnecessarily punishing legal photos. Illegal photos will be removed, so your vote of ten won't count anyway ... voting lower because you "think" there might be something wrong with the photo is wrong.

aye aye! (does that just count as one vote or two?)

We already do! The problem is that there are multiple stages that need to be performed - first, the SC votes on whether to DQ, No DQ, or Request Proof. If it goes to Request Proof, then we give the photog 48 hours to upload their original. Once we receive that, it takes an additional 24-48 hours for the majority of the SC to vote DQ or No DQ, which is when we DQ or validate. If the photog is requesting an admin note, the SC normally vote and decide within 48 hours - since we all have real-world things to deal with, it can't get much faster than that...

i think the button should be:

"WTF?! PROVE IT!"

Manic, why don't you streamline your workflow and simply validate any image that is questioned?

It would save steps and who know that you even go through that step anyway. I don't think it is communicated to members anywhere.

This would also support the button being changed to "Recommend this image for validation."

Because a lot of people click "Recommend this photo for disqualification" for silly reasons, like not meeting the challenge, or not understanding that yes, faded-edge borders are legal, etc. etc.

I think the system we have now is quite efficient. If you would prefer that the decision to DQ an image be made by just one member of the SC instead of a majority vote, then I'm sure we could speed the process along... however, I much prefer the current implementation where the SC votes on, and can discuss, if necessary, before a final decision is made.

EddyG,
Why so defensive? I didn't suggest one person make the decision on disqualification, just to skip whether or not to have the image validated and go right ahead to request validation. There is no penalty for validation, but there is for disqualification.

I hope you examine images more carefully than you read posts.
