I know a lot of people complain about the animal shots, especially the cats and dogs but honestly, they are a very popular subject for many people. There could be two project invovled with this one if you like, Domestic and Wildlife. And the Domestic could even be broken down into Dogs, Cats, Birds, Horses, Reptiles. The Wildlife could be a combination or could also be broken down.

Okay, revision of original post starts here:

We will break this into several different projects.

First will be Dogs.

Second will be Cats.

Third will be Wildlife or animals indiginous (sp?) to certain areas.(can be shot in a zoo or natural setting)

Fourth will be an A-Z visual dictionary of animals.

I will make up a seperate post for the Dogs, Cats and Wildlife and this thread will be dedicated to the A-Z dictionary of animals.

If you wish to participate in the A-Z Dictionary, please email me at DNeufer@stny.rr.com and in the subject line indicate the letter you wish to shoot. It will be a first come, first serve on this project. IF you come in second or third I will offer you place on one of the other projects if the picture will fit.

I will update this list as people are chosen for certain animals. If you already have a shot, please include a link to the shot in your email. I will not ever say your work is not good enough but may offer tips or ideas on how to make the shot better.

Looking forward to a full mailbox.

Deannda

Goal

The goal of this project is to represent as best as possible the animal kingdom from A to Z. The main work lies with you the participant, it is your responsibility to do the homework and find out which animal you would like to shoot and then let me know asap. It is a first come, first serve on the letters.

NOTE: Similar to the other colaborative projects - the goal here is a poster sized image photos from photographers for each animal of the alphabet. Each photographer will sign a release granting the right to use the photograph in this project, and in return will receive nonexclusive rights to sell the resulting combined poster and keep any profits earned from those sales. A fixed price schedule will be determined for sales on DPC Prints only, but participants will be able to sell the project elsewhere at varying prices.

Eligibility and Selection

This project is open to all Registered Users of DPChallenge (but is not a DPC-sponsored project). You can take the pictures either in the wild or in a zoo, as long as the setting looks natural.

Clyde is always good for domestic animal portraiture... In fact I quite often can't get the sod to get out of the way if I've got the flashes set up in the lounge...

I'd like to help too. I don't have any dogs or cats, but we've had a lot of coyotes in the yard lately. Maybe I can get a shot of one. If not, there are lots of other critters running around here.

I'm leaving on a trip to the Yucatan tomorrow. Maybe I can get some photos of dolphins or something.

I'm working on one of the other collaborative projects but I'll love to help on this one too, please let me know.

I've got a gecko that can be modeled in either a domestic or a wild scene by just adding some sand. Im here to help.

O yeah, my neighborhood also happens to have quite a large population of squirrels and deer, although their starting to cut down on the amount of cars :)

Hi. You can use any of my pictures of my cats.
I just wanted to vent about my cat. Brandon likes to play fetch but he's picky about what he wants to fetch. For the last year it's been a cork from a bottle of wine. Well. He hidden it somewhere and he's driving me crazy. He's stationed himself at my feet, giving out his fetch cry and looking up at me. I have nothing to throw that he will bring back. I've tried socks, his stuffed mice, sponge balls, the cork from my (empty) whiskey bottle, everything. He won't leave me alone. Maybe it's time to go buy some more cheap wine. I wonder what brand it was.

Because the topic mentioned for this project is so broad, I would like to take a chance to offer a few suggestions. The project should be specified, for example:

A-Z a Visual Dictionary, where each letter consists of a certain picture of an animal, be it domestic or wild, beginning with that letter.

The Earth. A visual make up of the earth and its multiple biodomes, consisting of certain animals in certain biomes and habitates. This would specifically include pictures of wild animals, Zoos would do as well, as long as the animal being photographed is in something somewhat like its natural habitat.

Cats and/or Dogs. Not to leave anybody out (including myself), but a project with either a calender or display of domestic cats and dogs, 1 of each type available in a photograph by each person.

My Backyard. A project similar to that of the biodome idea but incorperating the natural surroundings of residents in certain areas, somewhat like Callaborative Project 3, with multiple pictures from states or countries displaying what you would find one day leaving you a present on your lawn.

I am not running the project, just thought a helpful push would get you on your way.

Feel free to make your own suggestions,

Robert

Thank you! I wanted to make sure there was an interest before defining anything solid but this is an excellent start.

I like the A-Z idea but what would you use for X? :)

Great Site. If this project was to take place, you would have to think about ways of assigning photos. I was thinking that either having people list a letter of an animal they would prefer to do, or (if possible because of peoples locations) try to assign photos. Maybe you could still have people list the kinds of animals they can ge, then create an A-Z checklist and look at what kind of animal people can get. If some one is colse to a zoo, they might have more options that someone who can get as far as their backyard.

I love the idea and would love to take part in both wildlife and domestic!

By the way, does domestic count fish, corals and other invertebrates from a home aquarium? Cause I have some really cool shots in that area like this for example...

And in this case, X can stand for Xenia which is a type of soft coral

I would think they would count, pet stores often recieve their saltwater fish, corals, and invertabrates as 'Ocean caught' and not tank raised.
