I got this lens from a junk shop here in Japan and i have no clue what it is the only markings i can see is this

BIG88DA 800-1,200mm 1:9 9-14.9 and it has a coller to zoom that has the words LOCK-OPEN written on it.

The adapter seems to be interchangable and for now the cap has the initials T-PK Japan written on the side.

Any help or information greatly appreciated thank you.

loks like a large tele lens to me thr letters pk I think are the type of camera it fits on. if it is a screw mount it could be the standard 42mm one but I think PK is a pentax fitting.

Probably a Kalimar lens (brand owned by Tiffen).

Sorry, don't know much about this lens, but I found one reference to T-Pk being a Pentax-42mm to Pentax-K mount adaptor.

You could try to E-mail Kyu (click on his name) there on that page that Robin posted. It looks like he is some kind of moderator for that Japanese Photography forum. Some words on his homepage (the little house link) are in english. Could be worth a shot.

Babel fish does it's normal butchering of the language. put in the original url select 'Japanese to English' -- they appear to be talking about nature photography (birds and butterflies mentioned) that is being made dificult by the weather.

I wasn't able to get much more out of it before my head started hurting. :p

Per Babel Fish:

Connecting the BIG88DA (800-1200mm) lens to EOS Digital 19:47 No.194

Apparently this is a discussion about exposure issues with this lens. Probably not too helpful here. Good luck.

I like the part at the end where it says:

"Koshigaya, paying attention body, please fly about.
You think that there is a variety and equipment and material selection, but with current style the variety and trial and error ƒ‡ where also what is done is big one step advance.
Please persevere with the not hurrying, the day off and the air as easy. To be possible."

....Ummm, yeah.

Thanx guys/girls for the pointers. i think maybe a KALIMA lens too, YES i found the mount to be PENTAX but it also has the screw thread underneath I believe they make various adapters for it... Hmmmmm wonder if it is worth me buying one for the Nikon or do you think this this is an *EL CHEAPO* lens and the quality would be tooooo sucky?.. oh and speaking of ENGRISH

Be aware that F9.9 is very slow, it gets even much slower towards the end and to get more sharpness you need to stop down even more. So you need to get some very good stability and I wonder if you can get the right ISO/ shutterspeed combination to produce anything good. Remember that the D70 has no mirror lockup to help with that.
Does it even work on the D70? How are your metering skills, because you will have to meter manually (without help from the camera). You also have to focus it manually which could be a hassle. The viewfinder will not be very bright with this lens attached (because of the f9.9) so it could be problematic.
Do you have a use for it? Where else can you find a lens with this range for that money? I expect the quality will be average, but when you can catch something at 1200mm x 1.5 = 1800mm on the D70 that you otherwise cannot get and you can live with the limitations?

This lens was brought from a JUNK shop as i say and had mould inside.. I have since spent the last 5 hours cleaning it completely and now it is very clean (not perfect but VERY clean) and the total cost to me was about $30 (2650yen) so even if i end up throwing it out the window I think it was worth buying just for the fun aspect.. now all I have to do is go buy a NIKON adapter instead of the PENTAX that is fitted then I can try it out and post the results.

Anyone used anything of similar focal lengh and apature can show me the result.. I want to use this thing for maybe Moon pics and nature if the f9 - 14.9 will allow.

Also if i used this with my 2X adaptor does it DOUBLE the stop (f18-f30) or does it just add a couple of stops up??? Sorry Im such a noob at times.

If I am right then that "screw thread" is the old pentax M42 screw on mount. You would just have to look for a pentax M42 to Nikon adaptor. It shouldn't be that hard to find.

Like this Nikon F mount maybe depending on your camera. Not familiar with Nikon.

Sounds like a fun project alionic. Don't forget to show us some pics if you get it working.
