I use to frequent this site many times, when I first started photography. I still admire jmsetzler and my friend Shiiizzzam. I started my photography buisiness at the beginning of the year and things have gone really well. I know frequent the forums of digitalweddingforum.com, fredmiranda.com and dpreview.com. I'm sorry to say but things are much more constructive there. I stoped by this site today and see nothing but chaos. Please say it aint so. This is where I began to grow as a photographer. One of my peers stated that's what happens with amatuers. I do think the judge or administratore might have gone alittle over board by making such threats to the general public. I should of been a one on one conversation. Now your battling against your community and public. I hope things get solved and we are able to refocuse our strengths and talents and continue to grow and help each other.

I think a lot of people are pissy with the upcoming (American) Holidays.... This is out of character for DPC....

Please come around again on Monday, I'm sure we'll be back to normal again!

Nope, no full moon; but it is nearly Thanksgiving here in the States. Now that is is something to go crazy over -- Mmmmm, turkey! And after that, we shop ...

I am an educated individual, and I too am very upset with the people on this site, including the admins. I have found a few people to be very helpful, two of them are posting in this thread. I have two masters, work in photojournalism, and teach college photography and cinema. I have been on DPC since mid summer and have chosen to not pay for this site. This has become a community of one-upmanship. In the forums and in the comments on photos. Most people here like to hear themselves speak utter rejection for any idea that is not there own. I give long and detailed educated advice, and people feel the need to post that I write to much. It looks like DPC has gone the way of the television, presenting a lowest common denominator attitude, that rejects civilized thought. The one redeeming value that I have found comes from people that email me saying that I helped them with a problem. I have over twenty of these emails.

In writing this I have decided to not involve myself in this site, not submit for challenges, and not post any more in the forums. I think I will even write an article on my experience for the news wires. If you need to get ahold of me, just email.

Signing off for good,
Sincerely,

Edit:
I have posted this in the rant page. As it turns out the rants don't forward to the main page. So, for the next few days I will check there if you'd like to comment.

well thanks for the compliment :) - glad to be of some help

I think this site is suffering from one of those things. when there is a population overfow - some people think we start killing each other off
- I don't know if this is true - but this does seem to be what is happening here :p

give it a few weeks and it should be back to normal - as long as we all just start to relax

Adam.... Jezzz I hate to see posts like yours.

I look at what is happening just at the moment and I have never seen anything like it on dpc. But what really worries me is that it can so easily be taken out of context, because what you are reading is only the opinions of the verbal few, not the silent majority.

The big problem is that people take emails and post out of context so easily because they are unable to read the persons body language or their tone of voice and simply misinterperate the meaning.

I have had nothing but positive response from this site and sometimes that positive response has been because my misgivings as a photographer have been pointed out to me. Look at my current scores in comparison to when I started, I have learnt things that I would otherwise struggle to find out about.

I hope if and when you write your article you look at the whole picture. One last thing as a teacher working with various groups of people, unemployed, aged, womens groups etc I have noticed 1 thing every group contains the same make up of personalities, the loud person, the funny person , the emotional person only the faces change. DPC is no different.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in incivility in the main forums since the US election is over? I have the rant threads turned off. However I get the feeling that a lot of the negative energy that was absorbed in the rant threads has migrated over into the non-rant part of the forums in the last couple of weeks.

That would explain all the anomosity

You know, I've been a member of this site for a little while now, I don't say too much, I don't antagonize people, I don't respond to nasty comments. I'm here to learn and better myself through photography.

My comment is this......did everyone else here not join for the same reason? Are there people here that joined this site looking to fight with others? I would guess not, but then why all the fighting!!! Why don't all these people who feel they have to get the last word in pay a little less attention to what's being said and a little more attention to what's being shown.
If someone wants to leave this site, for whatever reason.....LET THEM GO. Wish them well or don't say anything at all. If they've already decided to leave this site (which BTW I think is really unfortunate because there are some really talented photographers who are leaving) let them leave without trying to pick one last fight with them. It's a waste of time.
For the love of God people.....get behind a camera instead of in front of the computer!

I keep missing the point. What is the chaos? It seems that more are depicting a problem where there is none. We can not all have things our way. Like the gem from Mad magazine, "Do not go away mad, just go away"

lol

I love this site. I never take negative posts to heart. I love asking questions and getting fast answers. I love helping people with my knowledge. I love doing critiques and getting them! I love having a photo contest twice a week!

I don't let anyone (negative) get to me, here or anywhere... because we are all in different places in life. Sure, we are all (in the US) in a frenzy due to the election and the war, but we tend to put most of that aside to better ourselves and our skills as photographers when we come here to communicate our art!

I love it here and look forward to many more great days posting, reading and entering contests :)

So, out of curiosity, why would Thanksgiving make people edgy? Seems like it should go the other way.

Maybe it's all the cooking involved! LOL At least, I know I can get a little testy as Turkey day gets closer what with all the menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, cooking, and still more cooking. But honestly, I am bitching in jest! I love Thanksgiving and I love preparing a fantastic meal for my family.

As for the state of this site, well this is a diverse group and at the risk of pissing some folks off, I think there are a large group of people who need to grow up, there's another group that needs to develop a thicker skin, and another group that needs to accept the fact that their shit does indeed stink just as bad as everyone else's. We ALL need to step back and remember why we are here in the first place - to learn our craft better!

That said, as Thanksgiving approaches, I hope we can take just a tiny moment outside of ripping each other's throats out in these forums to realize how truly fortunate we are to have each other. I mean, have any of you ever stopped to think about how far digital photography has come?? There are ten dozen ways to do just about everything! And what about traditional photography techniques that we learn about every day? Where would we be if we didn't have each other to learn from?? We wouldn't be as skillful as we are as quickly, that is for sure!

So just give thanks ya'll! Live a life of gratitude!!

I don't think the chaos here is anything new guys....and it's undeniable. There are virtual fist-fights on these forums pretty much every other day..not sure what some of you guys are reading if you think we all play nice in one big DPC-sandbox :-)

I admit I don't enjoy this site nearly as much as I used to. The discussion over the Critque Club and the suggestions for it are now very upsetting to me. I've frequently been walked over by others and now I simply chose to avoid the whole thing. Most recently the desire to single out the better photographers by calling them "masters" has just been one more reason to turn away they are merely more advanced than others they are not masters.

I just want to point out that the term "masters" was used during a trial of a new challenge concept. Those types of challenges are now referred to as "Invitationals" to better reflect what they really are. In addition, they are not restricted to "singling out the better photographers".

I think the cat might be out of the bag on the name "masters". Whilst I understand that this is an open challenge forum, is it unreasonable to acknowledge that there are individuals who produce images which consistently stand out from the rest.

Luckily for me Holidays have been something to look forward to growing up, and even into most of my adult years. However, some see it as a source of anxiety, the preparation, the deep seeded family issues... etc.

Keep up the smile ursula! ... you must be smiling about Holidays to have posted this.. good for you! :)

Yeah, cooking can kinda get you down, especially when you have to make turkey instead of a delicious, scrumptious, lasagna.
