After much discussion over the Masters Challenge, we've decided to create "Invitational Challenges" in an effort to please everyone(!). Later tonight, you'll see the third Invitiational Challenge scheduled: "Invitational Challenge (No Ribbon)". The first two were the Masters Challenges which have since been renamed to fit the naming scheme.

If anyone has any ideas for alternative Invitational Challenges, shout em out.

A few possibilities:

- top 10 finishers, anyone who's had a least one finish in the top 10
- new talent, anyone who's been a member less than 6 months (it would encourage new people to buy memberships during the challenge week too!)

In general, I'm very excited to see more challenges overall. I think that'll be a good way to keep the number of entries a little more under control. People won't feel like they have to enter all challenges, they can pick and choose.

What editing rules will these have? For my two-cents-worth, I hope for basic editing, on some at least. I may very likely be in the minority on that, though.

Chances are they will vary when we schedule them. We're working on a rules revision at the moment and after that is complete, we will likely introduce a few new rule sets.

Sweet is right, Mavrik! That's an awesome decision... guess that's why you guys are in charge! :) Looking forward to competing in my no-ribbon challenge!

Oh, and Mavrik, I like the age idea, but I think for the teen group, we should do, say 12 and under, 13-18, etc. I figure by the time they hit 13, the kids might have opportunities to take some sort of photography class in school and have an advantage over the younger talents on the site. That's just my opinion, though. I don't know how many kids under 13 are on this site, anyway! :) But maybe they could get a Junior Ribbon or something, just because I think people would vote differently knowing that a child took the photo (and not be so particular about depth of field or composition or something). I know I would. And those same kids could still participate in regular challenges, and have the opportunities to get the real ribbons... just thinking out loud, no flaming needed. I'd love to see the raw, natural talent of the younger users, though.

Seems like this won't make everyone happy, just not include people further. It's like having a challenge up with nothing to throw at it. I don't like the idea really because someone's always not going to fit into the mix and have to sit back and watch.

I do like the idea of having some more challenges, but I think that might make some people shoot more and put less heart and thought into voting.

Just my $.02 though

Participants with:

1. More than 100 challenge entries (old timers) like me
2. Between 50 and 99 entries (veterans)
3. From 1 to 49 entries (rookies)

I think this is a much better idea than the "masters". It has lots of nice possibilities (well see what happens in practice) but I too have some reservations about still more challenges that you can't join.

I'd rather personally see more challenges active, with a limit on how many you can enter a week. If there were four or even six challenge topics a week, but you could only enter one of them, I'd be happier than I am now. Yes, less than we can enter now, but more choice of topics. And that would result in fewer entries per challenge (unless one topic turned out to be VERY popular).

I have another idea, ‘wild if it could be done’ because you would not know if you were going to be able to participate until notified by DPC. Something like a lottery.

Does this site have the ability to run a random number generator? If so it would be nice to have a pot luck challenge. Example: The site runs a random number generator of user id # and randomly picks 250 user id’s. They are the ones invited.

I would say.

1- by camera owner.
2-by places, if you got in 50% on the any challenge.
these are just to that i can think for now.

What if you have no ribbons when you submit the shot, but get a ribbon in the current macro challenge for example?

Also, do brown ribbons count?

thanks.

It's a perk of membership. You want more challenges then become a paying member.

Congratulations to the site management on this move and the name change which is a little more appropiate.

Its nice to know that when members concerns are raised someone is listening once again great work guys.
