Ok -- so I've been trying to actually make some money with my photography. It's been a slow start, but I'm giving it a shot.

I've been doing art shows for the last 1.5 yrs, and I've just been "Wendy Nelson Photography". But now that I'm trying to separate my personal email from business, I realize there's already a wendynelsonphotography@gmail.com

I wanted "Life as Art", but of course that's taken.

Even though my work isn't particularly art, I'd rather emphasize that aspect. People see "photography" and think anyone can do it. Although, I'd much rather have "photography" than "photos".

I thought of having it be wildlife oriented, but if I want to photograph people to pay the bills, that might be too specific.

That's why I was thinking along the "Life as art", "life through the lens", etc, which of course are already taken.

Please help! I need to do this soon - I have to order a new sign for the art shows that are coming up quite quickly.

Silly recommendations are allowed only if you put a serious one in, as well. :P

I suggest to create a new word, it could be good for branding and marketing, ideas:
Art-us
LivArt
Artyst

maybe not the best examples but this could be a better direction?

How about something more whimsical? "Girl with a camera" That particular one isn't great, IMO, but you get the idea. (I'm thinking about the moving company called 2 men and a truck)

I thought about possibly going pro 10 years ago when I was unemployed for a bit, but I didn't want to turn my enjoyable hobby into my living if I didn't have to. Your mileage may vary.

WN Imaging
Scenes by Wendy (I like this one)
LifeShots
Imagine
Bird with a camera (Bird being UK slang for a woman AND you photograph birds a lot)
Photography Chick

Some of these are probably more whimsical than you want, but the brainstorming might offer some other ideas for you.

The name of my solo show was “All stories great and small” - I say that I try to tell stories with my art.

I like “The Storykeeper”, but that’s taken. So is storykeeper studios.

Something else with storykeeper or some wonderful synonym of storykeeper?

I'm not sure what you mean with "that's taken" - as a gmail address?

I don't think Wendy should limit herself to available domain names or email addresses. It's probably more a matter of available trademarks and business names.

I think initials can often look professional and are gender-neutral, something like WJNelsonPhotography (I don't know your middle name but "J" seems to occur in a disproportionate number of these).

I actually was limiting myself because of available email addresses. That's why I decided not to use Wendy Nelson photography because they're already was one.

I was assuming the branding was to make things easy for people to find you.

If I do something like storyteller, photography or life as art, but can't use it as an email address, how do you change up the email address to include it and make it memorable?

I can’t speak to your branding but can tell you how I approach mine and perhaps that will inspire you in your own voice. I started out with my name (first and middle name) Erin Kirsten Photography. Then I found out when I put my high school seniors with my little kiddos on social media they didn’t love when their parents (primarily mom) would suggest Erin Kirsten Photography as their photographer for senior photos. They don’t want a little kid photographer. So, I started Erin Kirsten Seniors, exclusively for them. That said; my tag line is Memories As Art (since my client is typically a mom, even if my subject is their child) and they are all about capturing the memory knowing they are leaving soon for their next chapter away from them.

That is a long way of saying; your message can be different than your legal name: Wendy Nelson Photography — Wildly Artistic OR

Wendy Nelson Photography — Artist In The Wild

“ Fur Feathers Fotos “

Wildlife Tamed

ETA: I keep adding names/tags

If you can get the URL you want then you can set up email within that domain and have it automatically redirected to your common mail.

So if you set up "goodphotographer.com" and then establish an internal email account "wendy@goodphotographer.com" then you can redirect that mail to forward to "wendy@gmail.com" or whatever your email currently is...

Yes, if you have your own domain name you can have as many email addresses as your imagination dictates you. You can create aliases that redirect to your main email address. I did that 25 years ago so it is nothing new.

PS I would never use a gmail address for my business. You need your own domain name, and that should be your unique business name. The domain names and the websites that hold them and offer email management without having a website are very numerous and cheap.
