Hello everybody. I was curious about something so thought I'd check. In the current song title results, there are several ties throughout - 3 in the first page, more in the second etc. I noticed that Neat is technically 4th, but is given 5th, and that myself and Lev are technically 5th but are listed as 6th. So there is no 4th the image. I think somebody may also be technically in the top 10 that isn't. Just confused is all! It seems correct for the top 3 but not otherwise, though I may be missing something!

It's a convention (not just at DPC) that if 2 people tie for 3rd then there is no 4th. So the results are correct.

It is logical. If you have a 1st a 2nd and two equal 3rd places ahead of you, there are four people ahead of you and therefore you are 5th.

I like your explanation better than mine.

Here is a great explanation ;-)

I think it's funny that the human brain even considers there should be a third place after two people tied for second, but it certainly does. It's a bug in our software.

Not a bug in the software... Convention just means that it's the agreed upon approach in a particular context, not that it's the only one (or the correct one, necessarily!). This convention is called competition ranking, which makes sense in this context. I must admit that I find your example (1224) very intriguing! Definitely feels weird. There's a modified type of competitive ranking in which when two tie for second place, two third places are awarded and no seconds.(1334). I think the one I find most natural is what's called dense ranking (1223).

Somehow I momentarily forgot everything I know about ranking this morning. Thanks for clarifing, and for clarity I'm not advocating for a change here btw.

Thank for the link, kirbic! :-D

OMG .... How slow can I get???? ROFL (at myself) - clicked the link, got irritated with the voice over, read the next post, was wondering if it was a "man thing" to understand this video in this context, moved on, read some other post on another thread .... and T H E N it me .... Oh my goodness, I am getting old and "un-sharp" (due for a software update for sure!)

Funny thing about bugs is that they are debatable. If three have scored higher than you, then mathematically you are fourth. The three scores above you and how they relate to each other are none of your business. But as a social being you are wired to care about other people's business. Is this a bug? Debatable.

It's quite obvious from your profile pic that you're the cute one, NOT the smart one.

Grinnin' & Duckin'.......
