A friend has a kit lens that is no longer working. It tries to autofocus but never reaches focus. When you said it to manual focus the charger release works but then it gets an error message.

She's just trying out a canon to see if it's something that she would enjoy. So just wondering if someone has one lying around that are no longer using?

Thanks!!

Actually, I think I do.
Gimme a day to look for it. I'll report back.

I don't know the 35-80. Is it a regular eos Mount? ( I'll look it up when I can, I'm on the road.)

If so, how much do you want for it?

It came with an EOS RebelX, The manual is dated 1993.

There's a couple of dozen on eBay for $25 - $60, plus shipping.
How about $20 plus ship. I'll ship USPS, any method you like.

And, for you, you can pay if you keep it, or send it back.
PM me, at your leisure.

Sounds perfect. My friend and I are traveling, but we'll be back tomorrow. I want to try cleaning the contacts when I get back tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. But I doubt that it will. So I can let you know tomorrow evening. Thanks much!

We stayed around an extra day so we won't be back until Monday evening but will let you know if we can get the other one working or not. Thanks much!

If it's anything like the 35-70 Nikkor kit lens that came with my D70s, I wish I still had that lens on my D5100.

It was fabulous for an APS-C lens.

That Nikkor 35-70mm is a relatively outstanding piece of glass, delivering better performance than many of today's 24-70mm lenses at a small fraction of the price. The Canon lens is OK, but nothing to sing the praises of, except in the sense that it's danged well worth 20 Bux :-)

It turns out I misspoke. It was an 18-70.....

Like I said, it was a kit lens, so I would bet it was designed with economy in mind, but I really liked it.

It sounds like this lens is nothing to write home about. But then again, neither was the lens that was broken. My friend is trying to figure out if she wants to do photography and really doesn't want to spend money on it right now. But I sold her the Canon 7D and 70-300 lens and kit lens. It was working a couple years ago when I sold it to her. But now that she's taking it out it's not working. So I'm going to just buy this one for her since the 70-300 is nice, but pretty long for a lot of uses.
