DPC Community:

SC has recently been struggling with what seems at times like an epidemic of lateness on submission of originals after the end of voting. Many of the cases are due to folks being on travel and away from their originals. It is understandable that this happens, however there is an impact to others - a late DQ deprives someone of their time on the front page.

This communication has three purposes:

1.) To remind the community that prompt submission of originals is key to ensuring that our challenges are adjudicated fairly, and that validations/DQs are processed in a timely manner.

2.) To communicate we intend to start being stricter with our allowed time for submission of originals, to help SC with timely validation/disqualification.

3.) To remind the community that an original can be uploaded ahead of time. Once you have submitted to a challenge, on the submission page, underneath the image thumbnail at upper left is a link to submit an original. We strongly encourage anyone who may not be available after voting ends to use the pre-submission as a way to avoid a potential DQ.

Please help the SC and Admins in providing the excellent service that this community deserves.

the problem is that this method of submitting an original only exists up until the voting starts. Suppose you see that your entry is doing well and there is a chance of it being called for validation after rollover, how can the original be uploaded then?

I believe the key point of the 3rd bullet in the OP was you can upload ahead of time during the timeframe of submitting your challenge entry. This would be MOST beneficial if you know you're going to be out of town or away from having access to your original files when you must have them for validation.

Let me add that in the scenario that you've pointed out Lev ... you can send the original to SC via the Help/Contact Us menu. There is a spot to upload an attachment on that form.

You can do so but you have to click through a few things to get to it. Here's how to get there:

Perhaps even fewer than you think!
I can't confirm at the moment, but SC may not actually see that second page, so that particular path may not in fact be available to SC/Admins. But I do know that it works.

It amuses me how things work with software.

I'm a Safety & Emissions inspector of cars for the state of Pennsylvania.

I have access to ALL PENNDoT publications because of my licenses.

It is *always* quicker to find what I need in the inspection regulations and the motor vehicle code through Google than using the state's provided software.

Just to give you a little tip on that...... They recommend, are you ready? IE8 for the inspection material to post the inspections for the record.

Can't fix stupid.

Ist's even simpler. Just click on your entry in voting on the left, the link to upload thé original is just below your entry.

I actually had seen the option for early submissions of the originals and even used it already. What I can't find is where to edit the comments in my image that is currently in voting. I often see people making comments during voting which can then be seen once voting closes. Where do you do that? I only seem to be able to get "This is your submission" - wow, great, thanks for letting me know ;-)

This is possible when you go to your entry via the "My Portfolio" site.
You can't alter anything but you can make additions.

edit to fix typo

You could require original be submitted at the time of entry. They could be deleted after the challenge to conserve server space. Advantage is that everyone would know they had a valid original prior to submitting.

True, and was discussed. It would, however, require recoding since doing it manually would be an unsupportable workload. And even with recoding requiring uploading of an original, no easy way to verify that an uploaded file actually corresponds to the submitted image.

This seems to be a totally reasonable and simple to utilize solution.

I'll remember that for future use.

Thank you.
I tried that. It says "This image is currently in voting, it can be viewed here" which, when you click just takes me to the image, and says "this is your submission" but not the editing page. It is here where you can submit the original as well.

It doesn't really matter, it just drives me crazy when I can't figure out stuff that is clearly not rocket science and everyone else seems to be able to do ....

I was going on a 2-week trip recently and had 3 or maybe even 4 images I wanted to submit in challenges that would close while we were traveling. I did not expect ANY of them to do well or to require "validation" for any reason (remember, validation is occasionally requested for an image that does not finish in the top five). However, I decided to submit originals at time of upload. I was glad I did as one actually did need to be validated.

Okay.

I found something really wild and wacky.

Try this.

Home page.

Place cursor on image in play that you wanna bank an original for.....

Click on the image. It takes you to the image.

Scroll down to: Note: If you will be away or offline and unable to submit an original during or in the few
days after voting, or simply feel strongly that others will question the validity of your
entry, you may submit your original in case the entry is questioned.

The "you may submit your original" is a link that opens to the page to submit.

Submit file and detailed editing steps in 13th century Saracen text.

Hey, it's cool. No charge.

When you've been here 16 years, you learn these things.

Like this week.

Of course, since I'm poor, have no life and I'm no ribbon hog, I never pondered having to submit an original whilst traveling the world.

Why would I know this????

LOL!

Guilty!

I suck, thank you for the trust you placed in me when I did the dumb, my sincerest apologies, and I'll try to submit originals when I think it'll win from now on. :)

I guess I've expressed myself poorly. I presumed you "know this" because you've likely read all the fine print and clicked all the links to see what's what. I mean, that's what I do...
