So we had
What is Your style of photography, tons of answers.

and

What is your Kryptonite in photography.

Challenge:

Take a photo of your Kryptonite in the complete opposite of the style you are used too.

So example; I would have to do a soft dreamy colorful macro or micro photo.

GinaRothfels would have to do a colorful portrait as her strengths are black and white and kyrpto is portraits

Standard editing

The whole point of starting this site was that a group of friends wanted to "challenge" each other to shoot something outside their normal comfort zone.

It would make more sense if this was not anonymous so that the pictures could be evaluated on how much "better" the entry is than the photographer's "average" photo in that genre (or their self-ascribed facility). Perhaps run as a Side Challenge?

i loved the side challenges back in the day ..
they were my favourite thing about dpc ..
the connection with other ppl was the best ..
the growth I experienced I don't think I could have had any other way ..
bring it on .. :)

Well, maybe we should wait a bit to see if it will be a regular challenge.

But otherwise, you can start a side challenge yourself -- just put the purpose/topic and any "rules" in the first post and give it an appropriate but concise title.

I've started quite a few side challenges over the years .. and they were very popular .. but found that the interest in them has dropped significantly ..
I'll do as you suggest and wait .. :)

Well, the pool of people who might be interested is smaller, but even if it's two people going back and forth about a couple of photos is can be interesting and "useful" -- perhaps even to others ... maybe think of it more like the DPL Team discussions but open to the public.

Well. So much for learning something new.

Hey, we're all for it -- just discussing possible ways to go about it. Maybe I've misunderstood your idea?

I just stepped way outside my comfort zone for an upcoming challenge. We’ll see how it scores (or tanks, lol) but I enjoyed it

So for me, I would have to use a camera, and the opposite of "snap crackle pop" would be a late night glass of port in a penthouse in Milan. If DPC could cover the flight I will do it.

Look, it was just meant to be a learning challenge for anyone that wanted to enter or enter whatever they wanted. We all see the same type of photos on the front page and in challenges every single week, it is the same concept as any challenge we have weekly, whether people do it differently or not. So why not do something out of the ordinary. I would love to see the people that do landscapes/still life/insects/birds etc etc try something new out of their zone. Opposites attract and who knows, maybe it will be a learning experience and something fun and exciting and Challenging.

If you do landscapes, do a portrait, if you do black and white do a colour photo. It is not some mad science or some hairbrained scheme, it was just a challenge suggestion.

But I suggest this just gets deleted now, so over it.

I don't think anyone here is complaining -- I think people are just contemplating and musing about what they'd have to do.

If you can write up the challenge title and description again for me I'll transfer it to the pool of available challenges.

I actually like the idea of people shooting their Kryptonite.

So, my thanks to this krypotonite thread, because I just won the blue ribbon in "industrial" thanks in part to this - I stepped totally outside my comfort zone after reading these posts and thought "why not, I'll give it a try." Sometimes that try is going to tank, of course, but you never know (and in my case, I'm not going to grow as a photog) if I don't take chances.

Congratulations! We'll probably be citing this as an example when someone's complaining about a topic they don't normally relate to ... and while I'm sure you learned something by doing this, it's also possible you'd have learned as much or more had it been the ribbon at the other end of the rankings. :-)

This is kinda funny.

So many topics roll through in the course of a month that I can't believe that there wouldn't be one or two opportunities for everyone to find their Kryptonite.

One of the things that I've always liked is that every now and then I think I'm getting lazy so I'll watch for the next "out of my comfort zone" challenge.

Minimal is the easiest for me as far as making me work 'cause I can't touch the sliders in my Elements. Waah! LOL!

So I have to pay attention, take my time, pay attention to the setting, and a host of other silliness factors shooting Minimal.

I get sooooooooooo lazy so I force myself to do that once in a while.

I would prolly play if for no other reason to force myself to work.
