Just wondering -- both Jesse and I read it as having to make our b&w photos look like old time photos. After re-reading it was: oh, sepia and other tints can be considered b&w.

Are we the only two dummies? :)

I read it as an option. Help to eliminate DNMC thoughts.

Yes, at first I thought it was talking about the hand tinting that was once applied. (My grandfather used to do it long ago.) But then it became much more mundane with the 'sepia and other tints' mentioned.

It's the same description as on the last iteration of this challenge. Historically, we've had to deal with voters who are so strict in their definition of what a B/W image IS that if it had any minuscule tint towards the cool or the warm they'd downvote it, and (those were the days) comment to that effect. This description is an attempt to counter that.

It might have been clearer if the term "toning" (the actual legacy process) had been used instead of "tinting" ... although I suppose some people might confuse that with "duo-tones" ...

Naw -- it was more since it started talking about the look of old photos, I originally thought that we had to do the portrait to look like an old photo.

When I asked Jesse, he had the same thought.

That's all

Clearer yet if we simply drop the term “black and white” and replace it with MONOCHROME.

Let us all share in a moment of silence to mourn people who don't know what "black and white" means and think for some reason it means "pure gray tones" and not what it's always meant throughout the history of the term.
