Not a thread to pick on DPC or the people who may be rewriting the site.
Just a place for constructive thoughts/ideas
I think the site would be much more useable and much more open to discussion if we could simply paste photos into a thread. I had two different thoughts this morning, but it takes too much time to be worth it.
The strength of this site is the ability to discuss and learn. Yet if we just want to post a photo to demonstrate a technique or ask a question, you have to
1. go to your workshop
2. Click upload
3. Select photo
4. scroll down to the bottom of your workshop (I have purchased the extended space)
5. click on the photo
6. select the photo number
7. go back to the thread in which you were commenting,
8. click the insert thumbnail button
9. Paste the photo nunber
10. Click ok.
If I want to discuss a photo in facebook, I click a button, select the photo, and click ok.
I bring up facebook simply because I actually found a really useful knitting group and I'm asking tons of questions and continuously uploading photos to illustrate the difficulties.
If you have a person who has been here for 11 years, and can't be bothered to go through that many steps just to ask a question, why would someone new do it?
(You can also add a couple more steps to the first list of instructions, because it usually tells me I'm out of space. Then I have to scroll down to the bottom again (the photos at the top are old and have been culled many times. I want to keep those), select the photos individually, delete, and try again)
If the website is still being worked on -- perhaps fix the major flaws, and don't worry about updating the look. Make it more usable. Because looks change continously. Usability is the most important thing for finding/retaining people.
You may now return to your regular programming. :)
(There have been 4 questions/comments/posts that I haven't done in the last couple of days, because it's not worth how long it takes to put up examples that you don't want using up space in your portfolio. That's the other issue -- if you go back and look at old posts, many links are broken because people have removed those photos. So the old information is also lost.) |
