Thank you so much, good timing. I have about 100 ballerinas I need to do a photo shoot for in early December. It’s a dream job I’ve always wanted to do. I’m up for the challenge and I need a lot of guidance. But I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for giving me some more ideas.

Not to be a jerk or anything, (Though I *am* imminently qualified!) You give any of us in this thread these fine ballerinas and that room with those windows and you're going to get spectacular images.

You overestimate my talent.

I find his work a little cold. I like this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E38coUzqqnw

He's using cold colors ... I didn't notice any (bright) red, yellow, or green costuming and the walls are darkish ...

Nope. Especially some of us that've been around here long enough that they've been exposed to how to interpret the feel of the person being photographed.

I know I'd give a body part or two to have that building for the afternoon with a portrait subject or two.

Yeah, there's a comparable selection.

High praise coming from you!

I don’t know — I found them rather plain. Beautiful lighting and beautiful people, but there didn’t seem to be any story behind them. Kind of a one trick pony. Who was it on here that did ballet photos? I’m not remembering… but those seemed to have more depth to them.

Those are fine images, technically gorgeous, excellent ballerinas, wonderful sets, and so forth, but for me they have no life. The ballet is not a thing of linked poses, it is a flowing of one pose into another, so to speak, and none of that fluidity is on display in these images. I'm not putting them down; they are terrific images and they are just what a young ballerina needs in her portfolio as she moves up the milieu, but I wouldn't want them on my wall, if that makes sense?

Here's a collection on 500px that has a bunch of more fluid shots (and some not-so-much-so)

For the record, being as how I'm deaf (totally deaf for a long time before I got my implant) ballet was always my "way" to understand music. I was very good friends with a covey of ballerinas from the San Diego Ballet, and they all used to come over to my place after night performances ended and unwind a bit before going home. They mostly had husbands and children, and it's hard going home wound-up and planting that vibe on the guy who's been feeding the ids and putting them to bed :-) It was interesting times. But I came to know the ballet world very well, and was in awe of those dancers, their grace and fluidity.

Having spent a very enjoyable day with you pre-Covid Robert and listening to your stories, I am in awe of your life’s experiences.

That was kind of my point, but I still think the images are very, very good.

I don't know if Steve was who you were referencing, but these two have always been in my favs folio....

Yeah, okay, these are images mostly in other scenarios that present differently. I don't necessarily agree with your assessment, but vive le différence.

I enjoyed the work for what it is and just noted that I feel that most seasoned DPCers would prolly do as well.

There is also this guy who does "ballet in urban environment" photography, mostly in the streets of New York City
