indecision.... i got a terrible score and reading the feedback, i must assume the biggest problem is that my picture didn't speak for itself. i'm forced to think of it as 99.9% of all people have never made beads ie for the arm, neck or ankle, so they would never know how indecisive one can be in choosing the next bead.... what color, what size or what shape. so, nope, it's not a "cultural thing", definately "not off topic", not fair to say "can't see how this works for indecision" and imho not deserving of a comment "i'm speechless". so i can answer most of the kind people who made remarks.

sorry , guys if i offend you be saying this, but i would prefer to get constructive feedback so i can improve... or no feedback at all. rather recommend a disqualification than humiliation by downvoting a picture you don't understand.

Here is a piece of advice, more acurate focus?

We don't DQ images for not meeting the challenge, since that's completely subjective, and part of the point in having people vote in the first place...

I gave your submission a 4, not becuase I didn't get it, but for the fact that it needs quite a bit of improvement. The focus is off, the light source is too harsh. The image also does not have a clear focal point of interest: the eye is forced to roam all over the image, looking for something of interest. Maybe having a partially finished bracelet in one part of the image next to a bowl full of beads would have been a cleaner image?

EDIT
Also watch out with the word "ignorance". Some people don't like being called ignorant. Better luck on your next submissions.

SECOND EDIT
Don't forget that we all had a mountain of images to review this past week with the October Free Study. It's normal that images don't get tat many comments. The best thing to do is wait for end of the challenge, and create a thread asking for some critique on the image. You'll be guaranteed to receive comments that way. ANd don't be afraid to "bump" the thread a few times either.

I posted this reply in your image-thread, but I have a feeling it belongs here, so here's a cut'n'paste:

Since I'm one who toasted you, without a comment, here goes my thoughts.

First off - composition is messy. I have no idea what to look at. I agree with the comment "quick snapshot of something colorful in your daughter's toybox".

As to technical merits, I find it over-saturated, unsharp with too high contrast and with no thoughts when it comes to lightning. However I have no idea how you put creative lightning on something like that. From behind? Low from the side to cast long shadows? I'm uncertain, but not with the onboard flash anyway.

Back to the concept of indecision. I didn't get it - I admit that. I've read your explaination and I still pretty much don't get it. Reading the title didn't help (I'm from Sweden, "beady-eye" meant nothing to me - and with an image of this quality I wasn't going to find out). I feel that image should speak for itself, without the title. The title can / should help, but not be essential.

You have not offended me, but I think your reaction is one of being offended yourself, and although I think you could have deserved more constructive comments, I think the level of your own commitment to making the photo reflects on the quality of the comments. You didn't try very hard - so neither did the community.

Thing is, even with you explaining how it fits the challenge in your view, I don't see what you explained shown in the picture.

You might think it is about the indicision that goes with picking the next bead - all I see are a pile of beads. I don't see someone trying to pick the bead, I've never been in this position so can't project myself in to having that decision to make, it just doesn't communicate the idea that you had very effectively, at least to me.

thank you so much for commenting. what you say is true, i can see it and accept it. thanks so, so much for your time to respond. i will do better, i have to because i have no intention to quit submitting. i have much to learn, it seems not only in making pictures, but also in looking at the world with different eyes. :)))

I was the one that said it must be a "cultural thing" and I stand by that... Had I been someone that made beaded things, I might have gotten it. If it had been a pile of metal rings of different sizes/colors, I might have gotten it since I make chainmail. But then no one else would have understood :)

In a separate note, I thought your October Free Study was great and I expected it to do better.

Learning what people here see as "meeting the challenge" is part of the process :) Check my profile and look at my first entry... I was hammered early :) Glad to see you aren't discouraged. I enjoy your work.

If you had included fingers holding the thread, searching for the next bead of choice, perhaps your message would have come across more clearly, but as it stood, the message was not obvious.

Better luck in the next challenges.

I gave you a 3, not because I did not get the concept...but because the shot was poor.. barely in focu, oversaturated, no composition and just way to busy.

one you get a low score, you have to first evaluate your submission on the merrits of the image itself, regardless of interpretation... this image was not that good to start with.

hey gibun, I know this has been said already, but even though I didn't vote..if I had...it probably would've gotten a 3 (and not because I don't like being called ignorant lol) just for poor focus and over all image quality (the color is wonky). Yip yip, better luck in the next challenge!
