You've got one, Wendy? Or just tried it out? It's on pre-order here, but I'd need to sell everything I own to buy one :)

Go away!!! I don't want it!! ;)

I rented one through lensrental -- and then started selling everything I own.

I probably made a really stupid mistake, because I kept my 200-600, but sold the 70-200 and the 100-400. So now I have a 24-105 and a 200-600.

AND

A Sony A1!!!

I finally have a camera that does what I wanted it to do. The tracking is completely insane. On beyond insane. I just got it two days ago. B&H just got a batch in.

I went out and took photos from the ferry -- and I cried!

Write to Sony with what you just shared, maybe they will be nice and help you with the lenses.

If Wendy cries over a new camera this must be big! :)

PS I won't get sucked in though!!

PS2 It costs $US8000 (!!) in Switzerland!

Definitely a monster of a camera... and yes, from what I've been reading, the AF on this latest generation of mirrorless cams is just outrageously good.

Does everyone have one of these?

Most of the people on this page have that listed as their current camera!

I forgot to make it my default camera!! I think that's what Lydia was looking at. Off to change it now.

I see we've seemed to abandon the "It's the photographer, not the camera" philosophy of quality photography ... ;-)

It's always been the camera, when it comes to me. I suck with a cell phone or a point and shoot

Ahhh... at the time Wendy was a Sony Alpha a7 III a bunch of people were Sony Alpha a7R III.

I am not at all familiar with any Sony stuff... and... I missed the addition of the "R"... so thought they all had the new one.

Now Wendy has changed hers to the Sony Alpha 1 and I figured it all out.

Excuse the old lady, please.

Except in Wendy's case she's now a professional wildlife photographer-person and the newest generation of the Sony has STUNNING performance in focus-tracking mode; gotta be worth its weight in gold.

I was commenting on everyone else's swooning reaction, not on whether better gear can be an asset to a good photographer ... sorry I left out the tags.

And I think (I meant) her photos are great because of composition, timing, etc. regardless of equipment.

With gold priced at $56.756 per gram and the Sony A1 weighing 737 grams, that would be a camera valued at $41,829 if worth its weight in gold. Guess the Sony price of around $6,500 (plus lenses) might be a bargain by comparison. Unfortunately, either number would exceed my current photo gear budget.

It exceeded mine -- but I sold anything that wasn't locked down. :)

Hopefully the bike will be sold tomorrow. Then the Thule car topper is the only thing left to sell.

It is definitely worth it. The camera finally does what I tell it to do!! With the Canon 7D, I could narrow down the focus points to just a few, and could work with that. But the tracking sucked, so I just kept refocusing. My main gripe with the Sony is that the focus area was either quite large or too small. The focus peaking in manual was incredible, but didn't help with fast moving animals. This I can set to a small focus point and it actually finds the object instead of just going in and out and in and out and not finding the focus.

We have one of those we never use anymore, but we're saving it for the end-times when we all become nomads wandering the wastelands :-)
