Hi all
I think that in order to refresh this site need to do a shorter competition in time
At least in competitions where you can upload photos from an archive that were not taken specifically for the challenge.
I think 3-4 days to upload and 2-3 days for vote will work better .
and why not to do more challenges for free user .
Thanks
have a good one.

Noooo - pls don't do shorter challenges :-).
This now is pretty "perfect" (doesn't mean I enter as much as I "should", but at least I manage to get some done).

Archival for "me" doesn't mean you *have to* use old images, just that you "can". I mostly still go and shoot specifically for a challenge.

Again ... can't please everyone I guess :-).

People want to enter more challenges? - Rob a bank and pay the yearly membership (truly NOT that much).

What Gaby (kasaba) says. Life is hectic enough as it is.

I don't often enter photos from my archive because it takes too long to find something suitable. If course it would help if my archive was better organised...

Agreed that a shorter period would just complicate things.

Shorter periods would put me off more than encourage my participation.
Paying members help keep the site online and having more challenges open to everybody would not encourage people to pay membership fees.

Look at it this way: There are THREE challenges rolling over every week, and sometimes more with the Free Studies. That they have 2-week entry periods becomes irrelevant, once they are turning over. Ditto for voting: every week at least THREE challenges finalize voting and post to the front page results, and at least THREE more are available for voting.

The 2-week challenge period is heavily favored over the 1-week period when it comes up in discussion. The ARCHIVAL challenges will become less common when the world comes out of the Covid-19 fog.

I have been a participant at DPC for many years. Love the site and it has really helped me improve my photography. It is sad to see so few participants. My suggestion is to give an actual prize to winners. Doesn’t have to be all the challenges - maybe one per month. It will get a lot of people interested. It wouldn’t even be hard to get sponsors to supply the prizes. I believe many camera stores would be happy to supply a modest prize to our “winners”.

as an older member I confess to slowing down. this site has meant almost everything to me as a photographer, if that is what I am. it is good that there is concern for the ongoingness, but I truly doubt that prizes of any kind would be an incentive; as well a modest, gear related item would have scant appeal among most members who have maybe gone as far as they want to go in that direction...back to my nap...
