There was an old TV show, To Tell the Truth. From Wikipedia: Three challengers are introduced, all claiming to be the central character. The announcer typically asks the challengers, who stand side by side, "What is your name, please?" Each challenger then states, "My name is [central character's name]." The celebrity panelists then read along as the host reads aloud a signed affidavit about the central character.

Here's one with Dr. Seuss

Anyway -- we've had challenges in the past where we've featured one of our own photographers at DPC, and people had fun guessing which entry belonged to that person.

This challenge is a bit different.

1. Pick a DPC photographer and try to emulate his/her style OR enter as yourself using your own signature style.

2. You must title your entry as the username of the photographer you're emulating (or your own username if you are doing your own signature type of photograph)

3. Voters should then comment and guess whether you're telling the truth.

Ok -- I probably didn't explain that well, so don't vote against this idea, help me phrase it better.

So for example:

I love LevT's dramatic lighting. I create an entry in his style and title it "LevT"
Tanguera decides to do one of her signature people with animal shots, and she titles it "Tanguera"

Voters then go through the challenge and comment on whether the person named in the title actually created the shot.

It's possible that everyone just enters their own shot with their own name. It's possible everyone tries to emulate someone else. It doesn't really matter what combination we end up with. It would still be fun guessing!

Sure, let's see if anyone can emulate my verrry dramatic lighting! (mwahahaha!)

Now that you mentioned Dr.Seuss, I'd like to see a challenge in his honor. I feel bad for the guy...

I loved that show! Almost as much as I love your idea, Wendy, for a challenge as you described!

I also would like a Dr Seuss challenge... but I doubt that will fly...

a Dr. Seuss challenge would be fine since nobody is actually mad at Dr. Seuss.

Quite -- but I'd say it was a pre-emptive move ahead of likely objections to those titles.

Yes, but... the publisher stopped publishing six of his books because some people are labelling Dr. Seuss a racist.

The Estate of Dr. Suess made the decision. It is NOT a case of censorship. Dr. Seuss himself modified some of the drawings in his oeuvre over the years to eliminate racial caricature and stereotyping. It wasn't that he was a "racist person" per see, but that the timbre of the times changed dramatically.

As a side note, Theodore Geisel (Seuss) and my uncle Mifflin were best friends, and I used to enjoy spending an afternoon at "Uncle Ted's" place in La Jolla. He was great with kids. I had a whole set of original Seuss books, all autographed to me by him, which my dear departed mother unceremoniously binned when I was off at college :-(

regardless of whether or not you believe there is a secret wokescold cabal trying to destroy literature, a simple poll will show there are no actual people here who are mad at Dr. Seuss or would be offended by another Dr. Seuss challenge (NOT counting the crowd who is offended by America-centric challenges, that's another issue).

I don't know -- I'm getting rather mad that he's taken over my great idea thread! :P

But personally, I'd love another Seuss challenge. :)

When I was a child my favorite story book was about a little boy who couldn't talk all he could do was say, " Boing, Boing" and do imitations of noises. When I grew up I did research on the book and learned that it was an academy award winning cartoon in 1952 and was written by Theodore Geisel who was actually Dr. Seuss before he became Dr. Seuss. I began collecting memorabilia related to "Gerald McBoing Boing" and have some original writings and drawings related to the movie and the book. Interestingly, I found out that Dr. Seuss and I have the same birthday!
