I will be Ann Arbor Michigan between 10th to 15th of May 2021. I was wondering if there are places with-in 2-3 hours of driving distance where I can go and take some Northern lights photographs. Any suggestions/location in the area?
Also Any place that I can visit and do some photo hunting :D |

Although Northern Light do appear in the Lower part of MI - it’s very infrequent - you would need to go up to the upper peninsula of Michigan to have a decent chance of seeing NL’s
Have you done a search for predicted NL appearances? I’ve seen a couple articles/links but I don’t have them now. |

Your closer to 8 hours realistically BC you have to go way NORTH!!!
I don’t know if there is a restaurant called Winn Schulers that’s still in Ann Arbor - that was their first location - as a kid (and that’s a long - long time ago!!!) my parents would take us for a special treat - I’m not sure how it’s rated today - but if it’s still open - check the reviews - and if they are still positive reviews - it’s a good restaurant.
I’m from SW Michigan - I can tell you all sorts of things there! How long until you go??? Holland Michigan is spectacular with tulips in Apr/May (look it up) - spring in Southern Michigan is really nice - apple, pear, cherry (edible) blossoms - I know it’s just now sprinting according to my friends. Look for botanical gardens - those should be really nice this time of year - Frankenmuth is an interesting town - Christmas year round!!!
Just south of you is Amish land - Shipshewana, IN
Have you ever read any of James Alexander Thom books? Read Red/Follow the River - you’ll be passing through many of the areas talked about in those 2 books...really good books!!!
Just some thoughts about Southern MI
