Hey all, as I am stuck at home like everyone else, I am looking for ways to make $$ without going out of my mind trying to learn a whole new skillset or software. (Big shout-out to Kees for telling me about Affinity, btw -I find it so much easier to work with than PS.)

After being here for almost 15 yrs now, I know that I'm certainly not of Christophe's calibre and likely never will be, but I think I can say I have the basics pretty much down pat. From what research I've done over the years, it does look like a volume game - getting paid to do a small amount per photo to do quick stuff like removing distracting elements, altering skin tone etc.

So if anyone else here is working as a freelance photo editor, would love to hear from you regarding your experiences, any links that may be useful, and overall helpful advice.

this can be a nice addition to your revenue stream. as with anything, it's a matter of being able to differentiate yourself from your competition and being to able to let people know your are available.

you have already discovered your "competition". it really is wild how much this has become commoditized. remember how 10-15 years ago, it was unheard of for a photographer to let anyone else touch one of their files? lol, while today there are still those who rabidly protect their works, there are just as many who would just as soon let someone else do it for them. the problem is that level of post-processing is no different than 20-dollars-per-house-drive-by-real-estate photography: anyone can do it and no one wants to pay for much for it.

so, you really do have to show that you are offering more than the ability to hit "auto" ;-)

as for marketing, get your before and afters together and dedicate a page on your website to your photo processing service. then start contacting people who may consider throwing work your way.

good luck!
