Well, on my new laptop, Lr is cranking through creating a library from scratch from about 30,000 RAW images. The task has been running for about 15 minutes now, everything is imported, just creating previews. the remainder of the machine remains responsive, but Lr is definitely kicking the resource meter up. It's using about 80% CPU and 17.5GB of main memory (out of 32). The fan is spinning, LOL!

ETA:
For those interested, this is a Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 3 with the i7-10850H 6-core processor, 32GB of ram, the 4k OLED display and 3TB of NVMe SSD space (1TB in the main slot, and and 2TB in the second slot).

Are you generating 1:1 previews? That's what makes my CPU get to 100% usage. Do you think that maybe it is because I have AMD and not Intel?

I'll have to look... I don't think it actually generated 1:1 previews for all of them, which is a good thing, no need to have 1:1 hanging out there for stuff I may look at in a year. It's a new install of Lr so I will need to carefully go over the import settings for new stuff. Nonetheless, I was running really high on CPU utilization, 85-90% on average.
I don't think it has much to do at all with AMD v Intel.
