I've found if you can order directly from the company you can add features you want and the CS people can help you add what you need for what you're going to use it for. They also can give you discounts just like the adds from other companies.

The only company I could find that offered that option online is one I've never heard of so I wasn't sure whether to trust them. Since Covid-19 came along they don't even accept walk in customers. Under the circumstances I decided to buy the laptop for now and wait until life returns to normal before buying a new desktop or possibly doing some upgrades to the one I have.

Nothing is as easy in South Africa as it is in other countries. And now that South Africa is having power problems again, with scheduled power cuts of 4.5 hours at a time, at least I'll be able to use a laptop when the power is out. That wasn't something I thought about when I started this thread because our power had been stable since lockdown.

Famous last words. I set aside a freezing Saturday to get the laptop set up. I haven't been able to touch it because we've had no power the whole day (over 10 hours). Not a planned cut so who knows how much longer it will last?
