Hey...
I currently use Internet Explorer version 7 and have heard a lot of good things about Mozilla's Firefox. What are reasons that I should switch over? If I do switch how can I get it and what are problems that I may face? Also, if someone could post a few screenshots that would be helpful as well. Thanks for your cooperation...any input is great.

Thanks,
Lee

Can't really write at the moment, but I will later if no one else does (which they probably will). You will love it and nver use IE again!!!!!! The software is free, but I did buy their little manual and liked learning the other features that aren't obvious.

Tabs are the best, plugins just install and there are many, no activex to screw stuff up.

I second that, I switch from IE about a year ago and have been extremely happy with my Firefox. The tabs are one of the reasons, as well as the increased security of using this instead of IE. Download it and try it since it is free.

Tranquil, it's not even worth telling you how nice it is. It's a quick and painless download and the best way to learn whether or not you like it is to try it out. For a web/application developer such as myself, the list of bonus features over IE is unending. For others, perhaps not such an amazing migration.

Embedded TIFF file viewing is not implemented, though. Doh! I have to keep IE around just look at patent office filings? Argh!

You might like the 'View this page in IE' menu extension then :)

Is that Maxthon? I've been meaning to look into that one. Thanks.

Edit: never mind, found it (ieview) //ieview.mozdev.org/

The only glitch I found, and formelee once mentioned this, was that when I used a new downloaded skin, it blocked some applications. I just removed the skin and that took care of it. NO other problems at all!!

Opera is also a good alternative to the MS Internet Exploiter. I actually like it better than ff.

Firefox is king. I've noticed less spam, no popups, faster surfing and -get this- zero spyware since I've installed it well over 6 months ago. IE never again.

And the extensions...awesome! AdBlock is capable of killing entire iframes you don't want to see.

Sounds really good...gonna download it tomorrow...what are "tabs"?
11/03/2004 09:25:16 PM · #16
I tried it, seemed like pages loaded slower and a lot of things just looked different. For example, the text boxes on a lot of message boards got all skinny and you would basically have to type your message in a text box that is like 20 characters long instead of the normal one that streched the size of the screen.

One vote for IE from me.

Instead of having multiple windows for different web pages, you can load each in a tabbed view in the same window. The tab has the page name and icon making it easy to work with multiple pages simultaneously. You can also put a few shortcuts in your favs in a folder, and tell it to open all at once in tabs.

Firefox is the way to go!

I use Firefox and Maxthon and I find Maxthon even better. The right-click advanced controls of the mouse on Maxthon is simply awesome. (example: right-click while dragging mouse to the left gives the BACK command, etc.). Very fast and good spam blocker too.

I'm having trouble making the pop up blocker work how I want. I can't get it to accept an entire website..ie
//Www.nationalgeographic.com

It will allow pop ups on the index page, but none of the other subsequent pages.. anyone got a clue how to do that?

When ever I type in the exact page I want it to allow,,ie //www.nationalgeographic.com/pod etc.

It just doesn't add it to the allowed list.

other than that I love it!

Just put www.nationalgeographic.com. If that doesn't work, make sure you are using the latest version of FF.

Kinda surprised that there's no extension for that, but you can try a plugin: //www.alternatiff.com/

The biggest thing I do not like about Firefox is:

It will sort my imported bookmarks in "Manage Bookmarks" but not in the drop down menu.

I do not like to use it because I live on Bookmarks :) Is there a fix for this?
