Yup -- but you also chose a texture, which usually people love or hate. Even though I like your scene, I didn't care for the texture. I thought it needlessly detracted from the image. I didn't get around to scoring that challenge, but I could see it being a 7 without the texture. Definitely would have been a 5 with it. (I don't normally have such a difference in score given simply because of editing. But it looked like there were interesting textures in the sand that got lost with the added texture. Plus, it would have been the sand having texture and the hamlet not having it that would have been a lot of the interest in the photo.

What Wendy said.
I hit this pretty hard because of that texture for the reasons she outlined.

No, but it is a challenge which ask users to vote on the images they view.
I felt the texture really detracted from the scene portrayed, especially in relation to the other images within the challenge.

Your entry into a challenge is everything you present and that's what people are voting on, what was your vision and do they like it. They're going to apply their likes and dislikes to their vote, some like eye candy, some don't, some look for a story or emotion. It's part of the challenge to find a happy medium that you like what you've created and so do the voters.

I'm finding it hard to follow this discussion with all the deleted comments, but this one interested me. To my mind a texture does define a photo because once the texture is there it's hard to imagine it any other way. Voters even penalize borders and those have much less influence on the scene depicted. That's why I'm trying to eliminate borders from my workflow.

This has no bearing on the OP's photo. I didn't have time to vote on this challenge and have only seen the photo on my phone, so I don't have an opinion of the texture one way or another.

I went heavy on the processing, which I rarely do.

I thought the image was boring without it.

But, I really love the image with it.

I knew some would really love it... and... some would really hate it.

This showed up in the comments.

And, I'm okay with it.

I just liked my image and processing.

Other times, I want the SCORE... This time, I just liked it and didn't care.

I did HOPE that it would score well... don't misunderstand me. Ha!

I'd love it more if you'd post your editing steps and the original for comparison (unless it's a trade secret) ...

Thanks -- I think the effect works well for that image.
