well my average is in the threes so it looks like a low scorer, hopefully voters will be more generous

5.8 and heading down. Though this seems to be a trend. All of my scores have been going down over the last three days.

A while ago there was an individual or 2 who were voting extremely low. Ones, twos, and 3’s. The SC investigated and eliminated the obvious offender (s). Take a look at recent challenges. This appears to be happening again. Maybe the SC should take another look at this?

I noticed there were quite a lot of 1 votes in the isolation challenge which I thought rather odd.

Yes none of the images that received ones deserved them. I wonder if SC can find out who they were!

Mine fell 3.300 while I slept.

In happier news, there are a BUNCH of fantastic entries in Hobby.

I'm very impressed, folks!

I gave this entry a '1' vote.

Sorry, but I see nothing here that merits anything higher. I am a full range voter and use the entire voting scale and I'm not ashamed to say so. It was the only vote of '1' I gave out for this challenge. I did not issue a 10, but gave out a couple of 9's and everything else in between.

I'm not surprised to see low votes in the isolation challenge myself. I thought a lot of the images were just "mailed in" and didn't work very hard at isolating what isolation really means if you catch my drift? Not to say they "deserved" 1's, but... The scale is there and some folks used it.

one does not "deserve" a this or that vote. I am glad that people are using the full gamut. to say that one should not is like saying one should not take a picture like this or like that. Get a grip on the full splendour of the universe.

I've recently returned to DPC after a long break. I remember this has been an issue always, where some people might vote images down on purpose, although I do think most voters are honestly giving the vote they feel the image deserves. I know I've given out a few 1's when i genuinely thought the image deserved it. I think more than the votes, I would like to know the reasoning behind them, particularly the 4-5-6 votes. I would love to know what people think I could've done to make the image better. After all, thats one of the cool things about this site, learning and improving! Im currently not working due to COVID, so Im trying to comment on as many images as I can, hopefully making valuable points!

These are my stats for the Hobby challenge:

Hi Lisa,
I just read a comment you made on my Hobby entry. I want to thank you for your critique. It is honest, thoughtful, and helpful. The suggestions you made are very well taken and appreciated. It’s great to have people like you on DPC. I agree that if someone gives a low score they should at least have the courtesy to explain why and offer suggestions.

You're very welcome! I try to be constructive and kind. I do wish commenting was more common, its a bit frustrating not to have feedback!! Thanks for your message! :)

Ah... the old and ever recurrent story of DPC voting.
Nothing seems to have changed here.

Of course everyone believes his/her photo doesn't deserve a 1.
After all, everyone stands behind the photo they entered.
It would be a tad foolish to enter a photo while thinking "oh well, I've made the damn thing but I don't like it. At all. So lemme have those 1's and 2's..."

Of course 8 out of 10 photo's get "rewarded" with 1's and 2's etc...
After all, we all have a different taste in things. One likes popping colors, the other likes soft pastels, etc etc...

Numbers are good, numbers are fine but numbers may not dominate you.
Does the famous spreadsheet still exist? Are there still people hitting the refresh button every minute to detect votes as much as possible?

For f*ck sake...enjoy your photo's and those of others... instead of having a fixation on numbers.

There..
And now back to the voting follow up.
Everyone, enjoy :-)

Welcome back!

Another longstanding DPC trope is that you will actually learn more about what makes a photo "work" from the comments you make (especially, as you note, on the mid-range scorers) than from the comments others make on your images, so you're on the right track. :-)
