I tried using my old studio flash with my new Canon EOS R today. I have the battery grip with the PC terminal, so the connection works, the flash fires, and I get a decent photo. However, the live view in both the rear display and the view finder are completely black until I take the photo, due to the settings on the camera (ISO 100, F8, 1/200). I understand why the view changes when I'm shooting without a flash, to anticipate how the settings will end up, but how can I make the viewfinder work when using my flash? Does anyone have any experience with that?

Sorry, I figured it out. In the menu there is a setting for exposure simulation.
