Again my entry tanked down, I guess the issue is with the presentation of the images in expert challenges and I guess the voters didn't like the way I presented.

anyway so how did I do this one? to explain it I have a two animation that shows behind the scene. In here I used a cordless drill and attached a sparkle perpendicular and lit it. Once it is lit, I started close from the objects (motorcycle or the ORB) and slowly moved away.

Cordless drill:

Motorcycle:

Orb Processing:

Wow what an amazing set up. The photography on your magazine cover was superb!

For me the entry was let down by the typography specifically the choice of fonts and alignment.

I want to buy a cordless drill and some sparklers now.

Idea was about Sparkle and how all it can be used. including motorcycle like it is spitting the sparkles or may be it is going on ride and sparkles are coming out. ORB was a second shot and not part of the same motorcycle shot. I had camera facing orb and sparkles were behind orb and they were facing camera too. I started walking away from ORB. All these are long exposure shots pretty much like minimal challenge. :)

Thanks for the additional info. You put a lot of work into this and the photography as I said is superb!

I gave it a 5. The photos you used were good, but it didn't all come together in a pleasing manner that would grab my interest and induce me to buy a copy. This was more of a design challenge than a photography challenge and I doubt I would have done well either.

I already thought this must have been a complex setup. And it was no joke, that I could use your magazine!

Your magazine didn't show the "accepted" magazine layout, I think that was the reason why you're entry didn't get a better result. I was discussing this with roz too about her entry.

If you had made the orb picture bigger, so that the right and left border wasn't visible that would have helped a lot imo. Still I gave you a 7

Thank you! I think I need to learn on presentation skill, I hear what Steve and you are pointing at. when it comes to font and all yes it is all individual choices and that is what is need to learn.

I hope you don't mind me having a play with your images. This was knocked up very quickly to try and show the difference typography can make. Of course it is purely subjective so will understand if you do still prefer your design. I am not a graphic designer.

wow, this is really looking way better than what I had :( I guess next time when I am working on poster i need to look for some references on how a poster is designed.
Thank you Paul

If you really wanted to drag him into the world of graphic design you could have taken a few more minutes to direct him toward the use of lorem ipsum rather than "blah blah ..."

I think the hook has an effective barb ... :-)

You should check it out -- that page has some good background (it's not technical) and it's easy to use ...

When I first ran across that text, it was on a copier test chart and I thought it was a Japanese person's idea of what English looked like!

And what makes you think you were mistaken? ;-)
