Not sure how many are following this but check it out

There is proposal for Remote Identification of Unmanned Aircraft Systems where FAA wants every one to pay a monthly fee on the name of remote ID or an annual fee to track who is flying in what area and incase need to then take it down. This means whether you are a re-creational or professional you have to pay those fees and in case if Amazon says they want to do delivery but there are 100 drones in the area, FAA will reach out to the flyers and ask them bring them down to clear Amazon way.

This is what Amazon said about this proposal and they would say because to me it is coming from the BIG guys to clear their way out in the sky.

I expect the current administration will go with whatever is best for the corporations.

They have gotten an overwhelming number of comments in the (short) comment period, and they are predominantly negative. We'll see if they can ignore that. If they do, not only does it impact private drone operators, but also *any* model aircraft. Amateur R/C modeling has a history dating back to the 1960s at least, so what they are intending to do flies in the face (pun intended) of more than a half-century of history.

One would think that Amazon would have the ability and resources to develop technology that would be able to detect and avoid drones or other obstacles while delivering packages. I assume they're going to want every individual bird to be identifiable (and charged a monthly fee) for their right to use the airspace as well? I love my Amazon Prime, but let's not get carried away...

I don't think their drones will be large enough for that. ;-)

They can have my drone when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers!!!!

On a less belligerent note, by one magic or another my Mavic Air 2 notifies me if *manned* aircraft are in the area and suggest I drop down in altitude...

Probably using the same system the FAA wants drones to comply with. I would think the Air 2 is one of the first with that functionality built into it.

Sorry, I meant to highlight the exhibition I linked, not revive hatred of the FAA ...

Whatever it is, I'm grateful for it and good with it, at this level. Not so much if they begin enacting draconian laws etc etc. My Mavic warns me if I am exceeding 393 feet in altitude (400' is the statutory max for recreational droning) but I can still override it and scoot up for a higher view, which I have occasionally done to see what I could see, but really the photography is better at a lower angle. One thing I do like is that if I should fly out of controller range the drone hovers, seeks, and if it can't find me it begins to return whence it started, and will continue to do so until I yank on the reins to show it I'm back in control. It'll also land itself where it took off from if it starts to run out of battery power :-)
