while changing lenses ,one lens rolled off the coffee table where I had laid it down
onto the carpet in our lounge, total damage $nz250.00.learned me a lesson I tell you,
will collect lens next week. it was my Zeiss zoom.!!!!!!

Oh no sorry to hear that.

Been there and got the t-shirt. My camera was on the coffee table and the strap had got caught on the corner of the table when I lifted the camera and hence camera was jerked out of my hands and like you it was an expensive lesson to learn. I never leave my camera on the coffee table anymore.

Ouch.

My 50mm f/1.8 rolled off the sofa onto the carpet a couple of weeks ago, but I was lucky as it seems to be working fine.

I never never NEVER lay a lens down on its side on a table, always stand it up on its lens cap. That helps a lot; if you DO dislodge it, you have a chance to catch it before it's gone :-)
