uhhhh…. Help?

Any help about how to do the Woodburytype challenge?

I'm assuming that old, dead folks and old clothing aren't required... so... what do we do to make it "the style"?

So lost here...

" Research this process and strive to emulate the feel of a Woodburytype."

I find it refreshing when we have an unprecedented challenge here - no prior runnings (i.e. III, VII, or even XII).

Are you going to participate to celebrate this occasion? I will check after the challenge.

From Wikipedia:
"The process produces very high quality continuous tone images in monochrome, with surfaces that show a slight relief effect."

so maybe an image with high detail with a 3D effect would meet this challenge? Most examples are portraits with sepia toning.

I am unlikely to participate as it is yet another portrait challenge and my annual pass to Chaplin's World has expired.

You COULD try real people: you must see plenty of them in the places you visit :-)

Google it and then synthesize and execute. It's up to YOU to decide which way to go with this. No need to follow the herd when you can LEAD the herd :-)

No need for a portrait. Street scenes, buildings, even still lives. Google it and there are plenty of non-portait examples.btw I entered one already

Maybe, maybe not, depends on how much time I have to wander. Regardless, I still find it refreshing. :-)

Your opinion may influence the choices of challenges and spoil it for those who take the effort to participate.

LOL - seriously?!
Well, thus far I've not left an opinion other than "Google" - meaning Google it for yourself (to the OP).

As for influencing choices, I'd rather hear discussion now, if necessary, than once voting has started (which does happen).

EVERYbody who speaks up in these threads is "influencing the choices of challenges", and a darned good thing it is :-) FWIW, the challenge itself was proposed like 10 years ago and it never made it to the live stage til now. Is that good or bad? I dunno, but it's "refreshing" isn't it? :-)

I'm definitely interested in trying this one. Now it's finding the time.

Here's one I guess would qualify as a Woodbury type image I did back in 2010 when I still lived in the Netherlands. This was a winter scene in the town of Zwolle. It has been hiding in my "DPC Workshop" all these years.

That's a very fine image, Fred. And FWIW in my eyes it would have met the challenge well.

I'm glad you posted that too. For some reason I had a more stressed type image in mind, but after taking the time to actually "read" more about it I think your image does indeed match this description.

"The Woodburytype process was invented by Walter B. Woodbury and patented in 1864.[1] It was the first successful photomechanical process fully able to reproduce the delicate continuous tone of photographs. It produced true middle values and did not make use of a screen or other image deconstruction method."

That is lovely! It could be a plate in an old book. Wonderfully done.

Spectacular photo, Fred. Question: Is that canal frozen or are those holy people?

I'm in. Not totally sure if I captured the look, but we'll see what happens.
