Each year I have paid my membership and told myself that I would get into entering more often
I have been a paid member for nearly 15 years.
Entering more challenges just hasn't happened so I decided to let my membership lapse this time.

But ... this post isn't really about that.
Whilst I don't enter I regularly come and vote on entries but I am no longer able to do that accept for the couple of open challenges.

With the small amount of votes these days maybe its time to review this.

I'm not upset about it or anything, just thought it was worth mentioning.

I agree. Since my membership ran out the fact I can only vote on open challenges doesn't bother me that much but I think Maria has a point. It might be worth considering changing things since there aren't that many people voting anymore.

Excellent point. Allowing non members to vote might entice them to enter challenges.

We're not talking about "non-members" here: non-members can't vote on anything. Paid members can vote on all challenges. Registered members can only vote on open challenges.

Anyway, the basic theory is (or was) that if we open up voting on paid members' challenges to any registered member it leaves us wide open to the recruitment of "friend voters" by competitive members. Plus, being involved in the Member challenges at any level is a privilege and the more we downgrade privileges to everyman status the more we remove incentives to support the site.

I would submit, just as a thought, the following to everyone: If you've been a paying member, and are shooting less, but still wish to vote, is the community somehow less worthy of (or deserving of) your support, given that you wish to stay involved?

The Open Challenges are here to tempt people to get involved, but if we can't generate paying members we cannot survive. $25.00 a year is an incredible bargain, basically two bucks a month. It's about the cheapest hobby one can have :-)

ROFL!
But think of the personal growth! ;-)

FWIW, I think Robert hit the nail on the head... the community aspect alone is an incredible bargain at $25/y. Heck, it's hard to get a basic lunch for two for that.

Non-members or subscribers can enter and vote on open challenges only.

Non-members are anybody in the world who has not subscribed to DPC.

You gotta subscribe to vote, ad we call those "registered members" vs "paid members", who are allowed to enter more challenges, vote on all challenges, and who have forum sections open only to the paid membership.

I'll concede that the terminology is a little awkward :-)

So, in actuality.. there's paid members, subscribers, and non-members who are neither one. But non-members who are not subscribed can still come into DPC to look around.. they just can't do anything else.

Log out and view the site that way ... you are now a non-member, that's not subscribed. LOL

Oh, and when you're not logged in you technically are a "Guest" according to this page. :-)

Next time you're around a non-dpcer's device, try going to the site from there and see what it looks like :-)
