If this gets chosen and it's Minimal Rules, may we please be allowed to crop?

Sigh. There's a reason for the "Challenge" of a 'Minimal Rules' challenge. The challenge is to do your best to get it right in-camera.

You can do it. I know you can. <thumbs up>

I know that some images do not look their best as 4x6 ration or whatever your camera produces.

We were promised that some Minimals would allow cropping, but haven't had one in a while.

I'm okay with getting everything that can be done "in camera" but cropping cannot be done by my camera.

Well, even it your camera could crop in-camera, that wouldn't be allowed in a straight Minimal challenge as it's applied after the capture.

My position on cropping (not doing it for Minimal) is that the emphasis (again, IMO) is to have to work to think about the details prior to pressing the shutter. Checking your white balance, bumping your exposure control as needed (or using your AEL lock button), framing your subject appropriately (moving in / out of the frame - rule of thirds, leading lines, and so on), using a fast enough shutter speed, and being aware of what's in the frame as you compose. I hear you on the 4x6 ratio, but that's also part of the equation in factoring your image capture.

I'll get off my soapbox now (or will try to anyway). :-}

I think she's referencing the fact that a lot of us have P&S cams and PhoneCams that allow us to shoot different aspect ratios in-camera. So with my phone I can give you very skinny, 16x9, 4x6, or square framing at the time of shooting. Although I hesitate to use any odd ratios for minimal out of fear that VOTERS might think I "cropped" and ding me :-(

So just specify "cropping-allowed" for the occasional Minimal challenge(s) when it seems appropriate -- that's why we have that option in the rules, right?

Define "when appropriate". It's been brought up on both challenge suggestions I've made. Guess I'll need to be more specific in the OP and state "no cropping"?
