Outtake

Entry

I think the outtake might have scored better but I like the one I entered better.

The outtake is "prettier" but I think the entry better-suits the challenge topic.

No outtake, but I stitched together sixty or so photos for the Brenizer effect. Bear mentioned this could be legal in standard, but no precedent has been set. If it wasn't permissible I'd get a DQ without it going on record for future DQs.

How do I self report a photo for validation?

If my kids cooperated the effect would have been more pronounced, but I couldn't get them to remain where I needed to avoid breaking the "scene remains the same" rule between exposures. Without people is a little more difficult to realize this is shot at 300mm f/2.8 and stitched.

I think the outtake would have scored better. However, Judging by the entries, I think most people interpreted the challenge to mean “shoot something outside” and would have penalized both images accordingly. I didn’t have an entry in this challenge due to work commitments, but I did vote. I scored your entry a 5. I liked the image overall, but there were some distracting elements, such as the reflections of the lights from the tile and a couple of spots that look like lens flares, which I thought detracted from the overall effect.

Your best bet is to submit a ticket before the submission deadline (earlier the better) with your entry, a description of the editing steps, and a before/original version if applicable -- you should be able to get a reasonable opinion (but not a promise) of its legality.

Standard now allows combining multiple images into a single static scene for purposes of increasing image area (e.g. panoramics), dynamic range (i.e. HDR), increased DOF (focus-stacking); I agree the Brenizer effect should qualify -- as I understand it's a combination of reducing DOF by controlling focal length and stitching to increase image area ...
