Glad I went the way I did (Thank you DPC voters!), but I have to wonder how this would have done..

Your other photo got my only ten, and this one would have as well.
If they were both in the challenge together, it would have been your original entry to get the ten.

For me and for another challenge, the portrait would have been the winner hands down. But I, unfortunately for many entries, took the description too literally (I do HATE those descriptions) and felt as if what was called for was work in the sense of manual labor. Though I gave decent scores to many of the "let's get active" sports shots, I reserved my top scores for photos of people working with their hands.

And yes, I know one goes to the gym for a "workout" and physical activity can definitely be work in one sense of the word. But still, I felt the description was trying to gently interpret the challenge title and nudge us in a particular direction.

Amazing portrait, though, Cory, and I'm very glad to see it at the top.

Your entry was by far the best shot in the challenge (no offense to all the other participants). I would not have voted this one anywhere near as high. I think you picked the right entry.
