Welp... I'm like 30/40 miles south of where it is supposed to make landfall...

We'll see how that goes. Lol.

True Floridian here so I'm not worried. I'm more concerned about my pup than I am of myself. I'll try to keep you all updated as I can. Camera is charged, don't you worry! :P

You and your pup stay safe, Marko. Maybe suggest a Wind challenge for Sunday.

I'm praying for both of you guys... and the dog.

And all of the Floridians there in harm's way.

We lived down there for many hurricanes and then for the three in a row hurricanes.

We left. :D

I just texted my cousin in Fort Pierce and a friend in Indialantic (Melbourne Bch) and both are gearing up for Dorian.

Well we’ve left but with a plan...travel arrangements were done months ago - I hate that our daughter and son in law will have to finish buttoning things up!!! Oh well, that’s why we have insurance - “Tawanda”! Can’t get all tied up about what I can’t change!!

You're pretty far inland, Janine. A friend of mine lives in Indialantic which is on the barrier reef that separates Indian River from the Atlantic Ocean.

Actually no, she's just keeping an eye on the track. They rode out the last big one w/minimal damage so no surprises.

It seems as though my exact location has been spared any serious threat but the Bahamas have been getting obliterated for the last 36+ hours.

I can't imagine how bad it is over there. :/

I have friends on a cruise in the Bahamas but they said their ship is somewhere safe in port.

Yeah, very strange event. I have acquaintances who have dived with them. It's hard to understand what might have happened right now, but I have spent many, many hours on vessels like that, albeit fishing boats not dive boats, often for 16-18 days at a time, and my blood curdles imagining what the passengers must have endured.

I was scheduled to be on a cruise in the Bahamas starting day before yesterday.

They emailed me the DAY OF the cruise at 11:15 am that it was cancelled. If I were not a thinking person, I'd have already flown in and been at the cruise port (that was closed two days before) by then.

The ship could not get into the closed port, so they rerouted and went to anyplace that would take them (New Orleans). They docked today (a day late).

I was scheduled for two cruises in a row... so we shall see what happens this weekend when I'm supposed to get on that ship again. Going to the Bahamas (that are flooded and hurting).

Cruise ships have to book their ports (itinerary) years in advance, so when a ship has to reroute, it's a big deal, I guess.

Yep! I do know that rescheduling my life around a cruise is not a hardship. I'm just making conversation. :D

Totally understand this. Hell, a large amount of their income is tourism by cruises. This will hurt them not only damage speaking but economically it will be devastating to them.

So sad to see this happen to them.

Sorry, yes that is what I meant. I was not referring to the cruise lines, though they will get hurt too financially.

The new revise cruise itinerary that starts Saturday does not include Grand Bahama Island or Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas.

But, it does include Nassau, Bahamas, so that's good news that Nassau can still function enough for the tourist trade now.

I also see that both Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise lines are donating over a million dollars EACH to help the Bahamas and its people. I haven't heard about the other lines.

What port do you sail out of?
09/06/2019 06:38:05 PM · #23
Port Canaveral, Jo.

The port was to reopen today.

Miami opened already.

Did that used to be Cape Kennedy?

Yeah, for a while. It was always Canaveral, then they memorialized Kennedy for a while, then they changed it back.
