I am trying to upload an entry.

The 1200 pixel image was over 900kb so I went to Save For Web and that was only 540kb.

Nothing I tried made it higher quality in SFW.

I ended up saving it with 11 quality in regular "save as" instead of the highest of 12 and that got it to 680kb.

Any suggestions?

I can only suggest comparing the two and see if there's any perceptible difference, so you'll know which to use next time.

I pretty much always use the "regular save as" procedure -- I can usually guess the needed compression level one the first or second try.

If you're under 700kB at quality 11, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Try this: open the original again, and save it at 9, or even 8. Then open that and the "11" copy and flip back and forth between them and compare. The differences will be extremely subtle.
