Yes this week I've achieved my lowest score yet
with 17 people scoring my picture 1. I had lots of comments many very favorable.
I know its been said before but its probably a lot more helpful if those who give low scores add comments. I realise some people may not want to be to critical for fear of offending on what is generally a very friendly site. However I'd like to invite criticism so sharpen those barbs and let rip.
BTW who ever voted the 10 its probably best to remain anonymous :¬)

I didn't get chance to vote this week because I've been reduced to a 56k modem from ADSL. However, I would probably have given your pic a 5. I'm certainly can't be called even an 'ok' photographer, but I can detail what I personally think is lacking.
== Composition ==
Firstly - The pic isn't straight, which is instantly obvious. Was the shot taken hand held?
I'm not sure the negative space at the top is necessary. But without cropping it myself I can't say for sure. Also, the cans are not centred horizontally (-ve space on the right is larger than the right), which I'm not keen on.
== Technical ==
Considering the camera quality I think you did pretty well. The pic is a little noisy, but I couldn't tell straight away 'Oh this is a lower end camera'. I really like the shelf shadow across the tins. The lighting actually makes it look really sinister, which is excellent. :-)
== Challenge ==
I think it is slighting pushing the challenge spec, which would almost certainly have made me subtract 1 from my vote. It is an excellent idea though, and considering the camera, well done.
I hope you don't mind, I've had a fiddle with your pic myself. As I said, I'm certainly no good at photography, but here's what I've come up with:

I rotated the pic 1.7 degrees ccw, cropped it a bit and added matching borders. The cans lean in at the top-right, but this was probably due to the original being not horizontal. I also increased the brightness just a little.

It was interesting to see your changes ( I've no problem with you leaving it on your site )if anything though I now wished that I'd shot it with more angle I was trying to make the whole thing look abit skewed with the shadows as well.
I agree it did push the spec but I'm a sucker for an awful pun, I've since realised I should have had a tin open with a tomato sauce covered finger hanging out
Actually the picture was taken with a Minolta DiMAGE 7i (its listed by the photo correctly ) which I bought recently and I'm still getting to grips with I haven't changed the default camera as I still take 80% of my pictures with the Nikon
the nikons very portable and fast, I always carry it with me

| I liked it a lot - I gave it a seven because that tilted image thing is a real personal peeve. For some reason I can't forgive a slanting horizon. |

| It seems to be very common that people who mark low do not comment I've yet to see a comment with a 1 or 2 shown after it on anyones photo |

Given the speed voting atmosphere, I would be willing to bet that at least a small portion of the voters never even "got it", considering I looked at it for a long time without seeing the difference, even knowing that one of the labels was different. I believe that's a psychological principle at work there. I'm sure that led to a number of very low scores.
Beyond that, I think it was stretching the challenge (which most of the shots in that challenge seemed to do), and it seemed that even people who enjoyed the shot marked you down for that.
The technical aspects already discussed were also issues I would guess hurt your score.
Personally I thought it was an amusing photo though, and had I voted you probably would have gotten an average score for me. |

| I didn't give you the 10 but I gave you one of the higher scores partly because you tried to stretch the interpretive envelope on a tricky challenge. I think your addition of the finger would be hilarious -- you do now have the freedom to re-edit this (including making additions). |

| hey. I'll tell you what I thought were the main problems with your picture. My first impression was that it was a Warhol imitation of his campbell soup cans and I generally don't like stolen ideas. Then I noticed the humanbean thing and realized that is where the inspiration came from and also realized how it fit the challenge. I'm sure most people missed that. Also, the challenge stated that there should be a person in the photo and not just the word human. That was the problem. Other than that, I would have straightened it out a bit. I think it's a fine picture for the humor challenge or just a personal shot but I wouldn't be surprised that it didn't do well this challenge. My picture, on the other hand, I was VERY shocked by. If anyone wants to please check out my waldo picture. Most of the commenters couldn't find the person. I think they are impossible to miss. They are lying in the ground under the big tree making a snow angel. They are not small, or hidden, only lying in the snow with a white jacket and snow dusted blue jeans. Oh well, who knows, at least we all enjoy taking our photos! |
