Good Morning! As some may know, a few of us DPCer's have entered FAA contest where 5 lucky artists can win a billboard in Los Angeles showcasing their work! Nikki nam, Johanna tanguera and I CNovack are all trying to reach 250++ votes to get to the jury stage. Deadline is July 31. If you would be so kind to lend us ladies a hand, it would be appreciated!

***Note: Nikki is almost there - she has 219!!!!

It takes just a few seconds to vote by Facebook. When you follow the links below and press the vote button it will give you a menu to vote by FB (if you get an e-mail from FAA after voting you can always click unsubscribe) One individual per shared wi-fi/ ip address. Voting by computer and android phones are working fine but the interface on I-phones don't always work (the vote button sometimes goes grey and doesn't give confirmation you voted). If you have a Fine Art America account, you can log in and vote there.

Voted. And I looked through many of the images on the site. They will ultimately pick something that suits a 24 by 12 foot billboard in Los Angeles. Funny about the sizes of many of the entries. And how they are not anything “California” like. Oh well. The entries from our posters seem to work well. Good luck!

Thanks, ladies.

I thought much the same, PennyStreet. I did look at orientation, but I don't have that many in a 2:1 ratio. I figured Koi could be cropped and space added on the sides of the gecko if they were dying to use them. I also looked at file size and possible copyright problems (or perceived problems) and went with two I was super comfortable with.

I figured that it is an art site and not everyone wants beach scenes - I'm thinking those are kind of a dime a dozen in LA and they may want to suggest other possibilities. I went for simple - something you could take in and take away with you in just a glance rather than something that has to be sorted out . . . though something more complicated might get commuters looking day after day. Finally, the site come-on for the contest features an illustration that suggests they might use a more standard print ratio image with text to make up the extra width required for a billboard.

Anyway, my personal hope is to win a canvas - and every image that gets to and stays at the 250 vote goal by July 31 does that.

A billboard? In someone else's dreams :)

Thanks Gina, Roz, Mary Ann, Penny, Anita, and Paul.

I'm at 232 on my Gecko now, the only one I realistically have a chance of getting to 250 on (one more vote on Koi gets it to 200 which would be fun, too). If there's anyone else out there who hasn't yet voted and doesn't mind doing so, I'd appreciate the boost.

I know Chrystyne CNovack and Johanna tanguera would, too.

That did it, Margaret. Thanks!

They extended the voting period for a week so please jump in and help all of us if you haven't already done so and again, our thanks to those who already have :)

(And getting to the magic number is actually no guarantee an image will stay there . . . unfortunately, it's possible to remove votes as well as to give them. I'd love a bit of a cushion :) )

As I already said, the voting period was extended until August 7. They also expanded what they call the leaderboard. (It was only showing the top 100 - now it's showing about the top 500).

Anyway, that plus some recent, shameless personal plugging on my FB page and through pm's there has started my Koi Abstract moving again; they are currently at 231 - just 19 votes from the magic number. All three of Chrystyne's entries are also solidly on the leaderboard at 146, 135, 127. Johanna got such a late start that I'm afraid she can't make it.

BUT every vote counts for every entry, especially those within reach of the 250 cut-off.

If you sign up at FineArtAmerica, you can vote for up to 25 - only one time per image. I would guess the same limit applies if you vote through Facebook instead. Anyway, of course any of the three of us would appreciate a vote . . . but while you're at it, some of you might also enjoy looking at the top entries and voting for the ones you like the best. Of course, my hope would be that you vote for those you like that are still under 250 and help propel them into the juried round.

Here's the link to the leaderboard

Well, I put my votes in belatedly :-) I gather you can only vote for a given image once in this thing?
08/01/2019 02:47:53 PM · #23
Thanks so much, Robert and Mary. My koi are now within eight votes of the goal and I'm feeling almost confident :)

On their top scoring images, Chrystyne and Johanna need 91 and 191 more votes respectively.

Unless you wait until after August 8th, there's no "belated" in terms of voting here, Bear_Music because, as you say, you can only vote for a given image one time.

Thank you so much Robert, Mariuca and Mary for the support you are giving us! Go Nikki - almost there with 2 on the board!

I have had a nice jump in votes from this morning from 146 to 159 votes. Only need 91 more to get the Beatles inspired Fixing a Hole to the jury stage!!!! To all who have voted Thank you!!!!

I been sending PM's to friends and family asking nicely, promoting on my FB business page as well as Instagram. I had a $10 credit on FB to boost a post so took that opportunity as well. Nikki and Johanna - you might want to see if you have a $10 credit to boost one of your FB business posts - if it doesn't help with getting more votes it could help with getting more followers to your business page.

Bear_Music: As far as I know there is one avenue where one can vote twice but it has to not be on the same e-mail. Voting through FB is the easiest way. One click and a few seconds and vote is done. The other way involves making a free Fine Art America (FAA) Account which unless you are going to market your work through FAA I feel it is too much to ask someone to do. If one already has an FAA account that is another way to vote.

Update:

Both of Nikki's entries have made it to the Jury stage!!!!!!!

I am closing in on getting Fixing a Hole to jury stage with it sitting at 208 votes currently (42 more needed . My other two sit at 173 and 132)

Johanna's entries are at 60 and 50.

Voting ends on August 7 so you can still cast your vote on any or all three of our works (and it wouldn't hurt to give Nikki a buffer zone with her vote tally:-) ). To all those who voted - thank you for taking the time to vote and support us.
