Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictorialism

A movement almost as old as photography itself, and perhaps the first reaction to claims that photography was not art. Pictorialism asserts that a photograph is not merely a representation of reality, but an artist's interpretation. This often but not always included soft focus, as though the photographer's vision were getting in the way of the lens. It could also include manipulations in the darkroom which could be emulated with post-processing.

Standard ruleset should cover it, but I would be amenable to Expert if people preferred.

+1 and definitely Extended Editing for freedom of expression :)

Lovely suggestion. My inclination would be Standard editing, just so it wouldn't devolve into photo-montage in Expert. I don't see what the pictorialists did that we can't emulate under Standard.

Let's have some feedback...

I'm ok with standard. like the bit about getting in the way of the lens.
