What’s a Pet Panorama, please?

Will you show me examples that fit our Standard Editing ruleset, please?

I don't have any examples (yet), but my understanding is that it's like any other panorama under the Standard rules, with the exception being that your "subject" can appear in more than one location, making it a non-static scene or modified/limited time-lapse.

I think of it as similar to one of those composites showing a BMX rider or freestyle skier going off a jump, showing the sequence of twists and tumbles, only with a "pet" as the subject ...

If that's not the definition I'm in trouble too ... :-)

Oh, I thought it involved the panorama setting on a camera where you pan the camera around over a very wide area. That causes strange deformities if the animal moves while you shoot. Weren't there some links to those a little while ago?

You may be right, I don't think the description was very clear either ...

I almost thought about entering one in this challenge. I have a pet, I am entertained by the distortions that are possible using the Panorama setting on my camera. It never occurred to me that the everybody-knows Rules might mean a multi shot time-lapse composite, involving a tripod, some extra lighting to avoid action-blur, & a professional animal model. That just sucked the fun right out of it, for me. Oh, pooh. I already have many Brown Ribbons.

Here's a couple. Other distortions are possible. Multi-shot time lapse composites are not allowed in Standard Editing. Certainly, the IDEA was to pan the camera on a moving animal. I Soetimes hate how challenges seem to become an outlet for people to find a way to spoof the description :-(

Well, "spoofing" was not part of the plan; "panorama" and "panning" are not the same thing -- I (obviously)found the description confusing, as did others, and asked for clarification a week ago, and got only a still-confusing response about cell-phones ... :-(

Maybe if it had been called "Pan-O-Rama" ...

It never even occurred to me to use my regular camera. The phone has a handy panorama setting which does the job. I don't know how I would get the distortion panning... maybe if I was panning in the opposite direction from the one the animal was moving in? I'll stick with the phone, I think.

Sorry but another confused DPCer here, I assumed put your camera in Panorama mode and take a pano while a pet is moving in the scene. In this case there are multiple frames combined in the camera and the fun comes from delay while each frame is taken. So, it could be a mini time-lapse with panning by general definition?

So Roz's work of art with dear Katee would be legal for this challenge?

Apparently not ... :-(

See the examples Robert posted for the "proper" interpretation of the challenge description -- I was as confused as you were ...

It appears that what Johanna and Bear originally wanted was the distorted animals look from the panorama setting on a cellphone... not like Roz's image.

See the link above and re-discuss?

Oh. Just saw your response, Gen.

Thanks.

Suggestions are usually accompanied by descriptions, or they are requested.

I assumed that the panorama was the tool to get silly results, not the format of the final image. As in the example for the original thread:

Some of the images in this challenge had no pet panorama, just pet or pets in a panorama view. It was a confusing challenge.

PS I have no problems with the placing of my image, it took 15 minutes of shooting and I was not pleased with the result at all. I entered just for comments, thanks to those who commented :)

Guilty as charged. Probably scored better than deserved for being a shoehorn in several ways.
