I see something positive in the latest scores.
Many of the winning pictures score over 7 or and almost all TT end in the 6's. There was a bad wave in the recent months and I think that many left because of that. Low votes are hurting us all too much now that we have less and less voters (and participants). A bad picture is still a bad picture but explain why it deserves low votes. When I spent more time on a challenge, it doesn't always score better, even it's a technically difficult shot. I don't like flowers and birds.... but I really wanted to get a great flower shot and did a week research on internet about award winning flower pictures....finally I ended up with a setup at home, which took me few hours. The first votes are in and it gets rewarded.
in fact my 3 entered photos are doing great.

I thought it may have to do with challenge subjects. We have had quite a few of re-runs and it appears to work in favor of the quality of the entries.

My current entries are also in the 6s but not as high as yours :)

I have found I cannot predict what will be popular with the DPC collective. I have had several entries lately where I entered what I liked, predicting they would do poor to mediocre and they were near the top. Other times I enter something that I think will hit what the collective likes and they come in with a resounding "meh".

Trusting my own judgement and entering what I like seems to hit it more often than trying to please.

By the way, my flower entry had very little thought and effort put into it. I expected it to get creamed. First two votes were 7's and it is presently in the mid 6's. You can never really know.

Georges congratulations on your recent high scores. It seems as if all of us run into periods when we don’t score as well as we thought we should have. I have to call you on your statement about those who do not comment on why they score a picture poorly. There has been a lot of conversation lately about how everyone should contribute by making more comments. I have taken that to heart and have increased my effort to comment on not only the good pictures but the not so good ones also with constructive criticism. I have rarely if ever seen a comment from you on one of my pictures good or bad. In fact, I see that you average only about 2 comments per challenge that you have entered. No disrespect intended. Just making a point.

Shame on you, Georges ;) I hope you will improve your ratio to at least 4:1 (as I have and Larry) Make catching up with commenting your new challenge for 2019! :)

Comments to challenge entries is an interesting ratio so is votes to challenge entries. Anyone who now complains about lack of votes or comments will their ratios examined! ;)

PS Well done, Steve. Your ratio is over 20:1 !

I know... time is not playing in my favor. Way too busy at work from March till end of July each year. Btw. I will have a summercamp workshop at school and introduce the kids the wonders of photography.
4 weeks (once a week 2 hours).
Students age; 6 to 15. and already many of the higher levels registered. At the end of the workshop we will publish each students' best in a book.
