hey everyone ..
the month of May has arrived ..!!.. .. .. .. in Australia that is .. ;)
hoping you are all still inspired to take part in this side challenge ..

LINK TO SIGN UP THREAD

some thoughts ..
gratitude can mean different things to different people ..
this side challenge is a great place to combine our love of photography with the things that make our lives 'complete' ..
post as much or as little as you are able ..
ok to post photos you have taken in the past as well as ones you have taken especially for this side challenge ..
comments .. i feel .. are what keep these side challenges 'alive' .. so be vocal .. !! .. ;)
i'm particularly looking forward to seeing what other people feel grateful for in their lives ..

can we put in the comment section of the photo what gratitude means to us personally .. and how it relates to the photo ..

if anyone has other suggestions please let us know .. and i will add them to this post ..

so far these are the ppl who have expressed an interest ..
Roz roz .. possibly taking on more than i can chew .. but i've got nothing to lose by trying ...
Ken Art Roflmao .. I know it would be good for me. I'll commit to twice a week and will focus on the out-of-the-ordinary things to be thankful for.
John jagar ..I think a side challenge with the title Gratitude would be a terrific idea, we can define that word how we want and shoot for it accordingly.
Margaret marnet .. I will be in for GRATITUDE ;)
Gaby kasaba .. For me, I look into the everyday things I can be grateful for, but that's just me, as you said, it can means many things to different people.
Janine thrumyiis .. it will be a good thing to focus on the positive.
Patsy pmichaud .. Thank you! I'm in. I need that brain change.
Marac MAK .. I am still struggling big time to get out with my camera and shoot, maybe my camera days are gone...
Hajeka hajeka .. I like the idea, I'm not sure if I can fill a month with "gratitude" a few perhaps ...
Mariuca mariuca .. I'd like to participate provided I'll wrap my head around the theme since, as I mentioned, I feel that all my life is a song of gratitude. It might end up becoming a "feel good" SC.
Marion jomari .. might not be able to contribute for the middle half of May
Jo digifotojo .. Roz, I've changed my mind. I'll take part in this and also include Eric. I hope this helps to get it up and running.
Eric ozerad .. dobbed in by Jo ... (dobbed in is an australianism .. hope you get the meaning from the content .. )
Tammy tjbel05 .. very interested . !!
Rich streetpigeon .. These month-long side challenges are great for refining goals, seeing and ability. What I thought I might do, though, is drop by occasionally. Kind of crash the party. If that's okay I'd be....well, grateful.
Bill wbanning .. may not have signed up but he's here anyway .. ;) .. great . !! .. :)

edit to say .. i'm sending out pm's to everyone who showed an interest to remind them .. :)

In no particular order, among a hundred daily things, I'll start with the place we live in for which we have a strong love, for better or worth....

Moving right along.. I'm grateful for the woods out back which offers me a variety of wild plants and flowers to photograph.

I didn't sign up and I'm unsure how much I can contribute this month, but here's a start. I'm grateful to have this wonderful woman in my life. My wife, mi cielo, Becky. My second attempt, her third. Sixteen years in... and it seems we've got it right this time!

We haven't even started properly yet and I am behind!
Grateful that I can travel. As much as I love home, I love to travel and widen my horizon.

I treasure every new sunrise. And while this may be a cliche to many, in my case I truly am grateful for every new day. My late husband went to bed one night never to wake up again. Experiences like that put a new meaning to many things in life.

I am grateful for Spring. In California this year, it's a powerful reminder of the resilience of nature. Although for the past two years, there have been signs that our decade long drought was fading, this year we had over 100% of the average annual rainfall in less than 10 months. Lakes and reserviors are returning to near capacity in our county and the rains have been consistently under the threshold that would risk flooding. I know this isn't the case in other parts of the country, but for me, this year is reminiscent of the years of lush green springs that I remember from my childhood.

Photo taken at Carrizo Plains National Monument, Kern County, California.

This is my little blind kitty Katie who has been an inspiration to me. Katie had conjunctivitis when she was just a little kitten and lost sight in both eyes although she might have a tad of sight in one eye. I have to make sure she's inside when the mowers are here because she gets frightened if she's outside and has run off several times and I've had to search for her. But, for a blind cat she sure gets around okay, knows how to stay away from cars and she can really lash out if one of my other cats annoys her so they all respect her. I think her blindness has heightened her other senses (hearing and smell) so she is more aware of things.

This looks like a bit of a disaster, but I am so grateful that it is not worse.

I was away hence late start. I have just come back from Basel, my first visit there. I am very grateful to be able to live in Switzerland, the centuries of neutrality preserved so much of the past.

Back alleys, where pretension is dropped and a relaxed attitude reigns, give us fresh terrain to explore. I'm grateful for unmanicured vistas.

This was taken off the beaten path in the same National Preserve that the previous wildflower photo. "Johnny's" abandon domicile reminds me of how grateful I am for the home I have in a city I absolutely adore.

Could we extend this SC to posting other DPC members' photos to show our gratitude to them?

I have to start with Shez:

I am very grateful for all her encouraging comments, especially when I was new at DPC. Her words on my second ribbon were very, very nice:

She is greatly missed.

I thought originally that it was a good idea and I started to try to post some of my favorite images from DPC members. After I copied about 12 images I realized that I'll hijack this SC. It would be awfully unfair
I have so far in my profile 215 favorites and it becomes harder and harder to add to it before becoming a sort of portfolio on its own. I have at least 5 times more favorite images.
Perhaps if sometimes we narrow down and post our favorites per theme...

So, in all honesty, I return to the original idea of this SC (GRATITUDE) even that, as I pointed out initially, this topic is WAY too complicated and wide ranging without adding other elements to it

Personally, I'm grateful for this reconsideration. It would have been a whole new topic. Thanks!
