The roof has completely collapsed and the whole building seems to be involved. One of the world's best examples of French Gothic architecture seems to be lost. Another iconic loss.

I’m in horrified shock as I watch it on TV. My emotions are all choked up.

Absolutely tragic. Watching this majestic piece of history go up in flames is gut-wrenching.

Looks really bad.

Strangely I was watching a documentary from Russia earlier and thinking how amazing it that those beautiful old buildings have survived wars and natural disasters unscathed. But somehow you don't expect this kind of thing to happen without an abnormal cause.

Latest report I have heard says they have it under control.

Last report I heard (2:30 Pacific Daylight Time) from CBS is that a large part of the main structure may be saved.

They certainly sound more positive now than they did a couple of hours ago.

My parents have the dubious honour, of being one of the last people to see Notre Dame intact. They had just left the cathedral when evacuation started. These are the pictures they sent me this morning as they walked by.

Thanks, Juliet. What a timing for your parents!
From their photos it does not look so bad from outside so the chances to restore Notre Dame to its former glory should be high.
