I created a short iMovie and wanted to share with DPC. Seems like I go through this exercise about once a year. I enjoy the cumulative effect of photographs in essays or videos. Below is the cover image where you'll find a link for the YouTube video.

If you care to share your thoughts, feel free to comment here, on the cover image or on YouTube. Thanks

I am delighted that you posted this video. It transports me beyond the images, and this is a great compliment.
Your B&W work reflects facets of a world that is intensely yours, farther than any place that I know but still so close to what my mind is searching for.

You brought me back from your RED collection to the apparently clean realm of greys, ever so mysterious yet apparently easier to understand. We are surrounded by color and the world of greys seems to push us to go to the essence. You're walking in both directions flawlessly.

Looking forward for more of your discoveries Henry.

Mariuca, thanks for your encouraging words. They mean a lot.

Also, thanks to everybody who viewed my iMovie short. It’s just a series of selected snapshots form a recent ride on the HSR. As the sun rose over level farmland, I was captivated by the perpetually changing landscape. Bold geometry and pattens raced by as other passengers try to sleep or study their cell phones. Happily I’m still full of wonder by the world around me.

gorgeous shots. I love looking through a train window.

This might sound corny but I wonder if you considered doing a slide transition so each photo slides off to the left to be replaced by the next. It would echo the lateral motion of the train.

Don, I actually thought about playing around with transitions but never did. I stuck with my first choices of fade to black and the Ken Burns effect. Emulating the movement of a train crossed my mind but I was satisfied with what I had. Just think of your screen as a train window… The HSR can reach speeds of 190mph so the landscape changes quickly.

The images are JPGs straight from the camera. I cropped and straightened a few but that’s it. Eno’s ambient music was a natural fit for the soundtrack. I looked for “Music for Trains” but couldn’t find it ;-)

I might revisit the project but probably won’t. I feel like it’s behind me now.

Left a comment on the picture.
Everyone with a camera would profit from reflecting on this short presentation.
Thank you, Henry.

Paul,

Whether you’re commenting on my image or somebody else’s, I always find great joy reading your critique and thoughts. DPC is a better place with you around.

As for the video, Brian Eno is the genius and I just latched onto his melody. Although he isn’t a “photographer”, his generative music and art is fascinating. He sets parameters and limitations then lets a computer program generate music or visual art. Similar to choosing your camera setting and allowing it to create the image.

If you know of Eno or are curious here is an interview from 2009.

loved it Henry .. the sound track was so perfect for your beautiful emotive black and white images .. it has a sad feeling about it .. which is never a bad thing ..
emotions created from a piece of art whether they are happy, sad, elated .. whatever .. makes me feel that we are all connected .. often on deeper levels than we are even aware of ..
thanks for 3 minutes and 9 seconds that transported me to another place and another time .. even if it was only four days .. !! .. ;)
