A few people asked me about this so I am posting here the link to the software I use to get the painterly effect:

I find it very easy to use and fun to watch it do the painting. There are a lot of presets and it is interesting to play with color palettes and various settings.

I just realized that it is called Dynamic, not Digital.

Thanks Margaret - that looks a nice tool. Do you use the home version or the pro version?

Pro but I am not sure that I use any features that are not in the Home version. Best would be to download both and play with them.
