According to the DPC voting rules, when recommending an entry be reviewed for disqualification: "After submitting your requests, vote assuming the entry did not violate any rules."

Clearly many people aren't doing this but are voting down photos they believe are breaking the rules.

My entry in '101 meters' is proof of this. After sitting at a lowly 4.7667 on Saturday night, my score increased dramatically when the validation notice went up, finishing at 5.0976.

That means that the last 11 votes averaged 6 (not taking into account that some people may have revised their votes). That has to be the biggest swing I've ever seen on the last day of voting.

The photo in question was this one:

The validation request was no real surprise. I'm not sure this could have been done in standard editing without the Lensbaby soft focus optic and a rather odd aperture disc.

This rule is certainly important to note.

I was your 8. Great shot! But I do admit that I voted this challenge after the note was already posted about the validation. I do know I have given decent votes to images that were later removed due to edit error. I usually go through the voting more than once, so in rare instances I might choose to skip voting on something I think is really questionable and return to see if there is a message later. If not, I vote as usual. I know sometimes, even if called for validation during voting, the verdict may not come soon enough to post the message. This happened with one of my own images once and I do remember being disappointed about the score.

That stinks.

Yes, everyone needs to be aware of that "vote assuming it's valid" part of the ruleset.

That's sort of my bad :-( I was aware the validation request had gone out but didn't realize the original had been sent until much later. We like to try and get this sort of validation dealt with absolutely ASAP.

Yes that's a great shame. There are a lot of things you can do in camera these days, so people should vote as if they believe you kept the rules.

No big deal in this case but something like this could cost someone a ribbon one day. But really it's the voters who are to blame for assuming the worst.
