Correct me if I'm misremembering but essentially it works like this;
Each photographer submits / links to one image that they would like to see edited / retouched. This will be submitted by a date TBD.

Everyone else in the PPChallenge then becomes editors of every photo except their own. To keep the thread exciting, you can post images as you finish them if you want. However, I don't think this should be insisted upon, since it could influence other edits of the same image. Regardless, all edits will need to be edited and submitted here.

THEN, the person who submitted the original image will rank their top 3 edits! The retoucher / editor who acquires the most points (most appreciated so to speak) edits, is the winner. Naturally there are 3 Winners.

ETA: Be sure to include details of your process of editing in the best way you can. I'm personally not best at tracking my edits, but I'll try to do so and be a good example ;)

Yes, please... although... I will totally miss RKT and hope she'll just join in unofficially.

ETA: fixed typo that changed Rachel's gender. Ha! Sorry!

Since I didn't participate in this PPChallenge last time, I need to know the protocol for linking to my selected image.

Are the links typically from the DCP workshops, or via a cloud service that will accommodate raw files? Is there a requirement/preference for raw vs. jpeg vs tiff?

Thanks... looking forward to this!

You are in - but I have not accepted Rachel's resignation ;)

Personally, it doesn't matter to me. But I suppose if you are starting with an image with lots of detail, a RAW file would be ideal. I would not say by any means that it is required since not everyone is shooting in RAW. I'll leave it up to you.

Anyone can sign up until February 14th!

If we get enough, I am considering breaking us up into 2 or 3 teams so we won't need to edit so many images.
Any thoughts / opinions on this?

Might be ok, but then what if I wanted to edit an image from a different team? I seem to remember from past ones that not everyone edits every image - what if we only used the top 5 ranked images for each editor's final score? Or, a different tack, only allow 5-8 originals total and/or let everyone rank. Just some idears :-)

OK I gave it some more thought as well :)

I think what might work well is just let everyone edit the images they want in the time allotted. If you edit more, you theoretically have a better chance of getting more points. But at the same time, if you put more effort into particular images, you have a better chance of being in that user's top 3! That's how it worked last time. If an image is sort-of "less edit-friendly" so to speak, fewer people may edit, which give those people a better chance for trying - Hope that makes sense.

OK so here's how we will do this:
Signup can continue until February 14. In the meantime, send your photograph you want to be edited. Obviously this image should belong to you. Please provide it in a way that I can share in this thread. Once I get an image from everyone (hopefully on the 14th or 15th) I will give everyone access to the images at the same time (you will have to trust that I won't cheat and use the extra time to start editing ;)

Editing rules: Edit as many of the submitted images as you want (minus your own). Consider this challenge Extended Editing rules, except you can be even more free with it. You can use any textures or images you want to make an impact on the person who submitted the original image - preferebaly any additional images will be your own but not absolutely required. Keep in mind that that the photographer of the original image will be the one who dishes out ribbons on your edit of their image. To make this an educational process, please try to document your editing process.

After a given amount of time (I'm thinking 2 or maybe 3 weeks?) will be the deadline to reveal your edits.
THe photographer of each photo will give out ribbons for their favorite edits:

As in the previous PPChallenge, First places get 5 points, second gets 3 and third gets 1.
Whoever ends up with the most points after combining all the results will be the winner.
In traditional DPC style, you will receive a virtual ribbon type award!

LMK what you guys / gals think. =)

I suggest that people post both a RAW image (if available) and a TIFF or JPEG, since not everyone can open/process every kind of RAW file.

Sounds great, Tate! Thank you for hosting this for us!

I agree with Gen that we need to have a .jpg. I don't do RAW. *blush*

Question... how do we get our image to you, please?

02/08/2019 04:43:58 PM · #17
I don't really care how you send it, as long as I don't need to pay for shipping ;)
An easy way might be to Send me a link from your Workshop?

You can put the image in your Workshop folder and post a link to it (i.e. thumbnail) in the thread -- people should be able to download it from there.

Note sure I'll have time -- I tend to start out OK for a week but usually other stuff gets in the way ... I'll let you know before the deadline.
