The good news is that I have a book.

The bad news is that it's poetry, not photography. Or some of you would call that good news.

Buy this book and you will find out my real name. Don? Josh?

I submit to you that photography IS poetry.

I'm pretty sure I remember that Josh Nazarene guy. Didn't he use to hang out on the Lower East Side? Or have I got him conflated with somebody else? Regardless, this is great to see, Don. I'll be ordering a copy when we get back home.

For bonus points, the "Look Inside" pages include the back cover with a photograph of Don and literary bio details. Cover says poetry of Josh Nazarene, while copyright and editing are attributed to Don. One sample poem provided (like a gateway drug). Congratulations on getting the book done and into the world.

Many decades ago my high school held a Career Day with speakers from many different lines of work available to talk about the realities of their jobs. One of the sessions I attended featured an independent writer. He mostly produced articles for outdoor magazines and advised that making a living from writing would require focusing on what can actually sell for money. He warned that poetry generally would result in pennies instead of dollars. I still remember him musing that poets probably would need to survive on air and water alone. He said it in a rather harsh woodsman-like way, but I thought I detected a hint of wistfulness.

Yes, he did, but sometimes he wandered into Soho, Lake Gallery, and did spontaneous performances. There's a whole write-up about him in St. Mark's Place.

Poetry, at least in the States, is better described as a hobby than a literary genre. As a hobby, it is thriving. But there is no audience out there looking for poetry books. Currently, there are two ways to make money from poetry:

1. Teach poetry.
2. Get a bunch of fans on Instagram, and then sell your poetry book.

I'm doing neither of those things.

Old news Don! I ordered a copy in the first day of its publishing. Am already waiting for a new book from you (with rhymes perhaps; just saying). This one was pennies from heaven for me.

37 pages? Who has time for that? Do you have an audiobook version? :P

Congrats, Don. I wish you great success (whatever that means to you) with your book.

Mine is on the way with some issues:

"We're working with the carrier to get your package back on track, and we'll let you know when your package is out for delivery.
Please come back Sunday if you still don't have it and we'll help you out."

Maybe heaven is for me?

Don, we received our copy yesterday. I made it through the first 10 poems before setting it down. It's something I don't want to rush through. I can see myself revisiting this book from time to time. Thank you
