Let's relive the old days when the cutting edge technology was a camera that produced a photograph as soon as fhe shutter was pressed. Show us your best replica of a Polaroid photo.

Standard Editing

Special Rule 1. Your photo must have an appropriate border to mimic the polaroid format or it will be disqualified.

Special Rule 2. You may add text to the your entry as long as it does not violate the other rules about identification of the submitter.

Polaroid® and Instamatic® are completely different technologies -- the latter a Kodak product which used a film cartridge rather than a roll which had to be "loaded" and made standard negatives.

i was a youngster at the time... wasn't the word "instamatic" used as by the "common folk" as a term for a camera that immediately produced a photograph?

i guess we could change the challenge title to Phony Polaroids ?

Nah, the General's right. "Polaroid" was always the term used for instant shots, even after other brands started producing instant-print cameras. In any case, the Instamatic wasn't "instant" in any sense of the word, except that you had light-proof film cartridges that you dropped into the camera and didn't have to thread onto sprockets, which was a very annoying aspect of cameras at that time :-) When you had filled up the cartridge, you just removed it and mailed it off to be processed. Here's one model of the many, many, many Kodak produced.

Mark, will you allow for the whole variety of Polaroid film formats, or are you expecting only the most well-known SX-70/600 format?

Also, why do you think allowing text is a good idea for this challenge?

Can we use a Polaroid type border?

b/c many people used the extra space in the bottom border to make notes or put a date on the photo. so allowing text would make it even more "authentic" imitation.

Got it. So would it make sense, then, to specify a "Polaroid SX-70" challenge and provide a link to show what we're referring to? And, if it comes to that, does this even make sense as a regular challenge, as opposed to a side challenge? I mean, I *like* it myself, but I still HAVE my SX-70 (in mint condition) and so it resonates for me...

i think it could still be a main challenge... think of it as a free study with the format defined... it's not that much differenr from a square crop challenge where the subject matter is anything goes... plus it is more than just the format... there are possibilities to tune the pp (e.g., color/tone) so the actual photo looks oldish
